No, of course not. "Online violence" is made up nonsense. Threats and criminal harassment are a crime, but good luck getting the SPVM to care when they watch reporters being assaulted and do nothing or victim blame (or in my case, assault me themselves.) Montreal is a small city and people run into each other. I saw PK Subban last weekend. Last summer I was with another reporter, going home after we had been covering a protest, when Rachel walked by us in the Old Port. As for running into pro-Hamas protesters, this also happens. I saw Ziad Mowafy last weekend-a dimwitted, creepy, Hamas-supporting foreigner. He was with another Hamas supporter-a foreign friend of his who has some sort of obvious cognitive disability and has been known to jump around, in an agitated manner, when he sees me. Mowafy said, "It's Natasha," to the other one and they stopped walking and got reactive. I made a crying gesture because Ziad cried like a sieve when he was arrested. He yelled unintelligibly and gave me the finger. I walked off and ensured they didn't follow me. It never occurred to me to make a sobbing video or try to turn this incident into hours of content or some sort of legacy media victim puff piece. And unlike Shawn Beauvais-MacDonald and his "frens" from their little clubs, these men are violent and dangerous.
