“Why is there so much Anthropic derangement syndrome in tech”

Peter Dinklage reveals why he pushed for fewer dwarf character roles despite costing little people jobs. “I just wanted to not be a fantasy dwarf. I wanted to have a dick” “When clinically, what you are has become sort of poached by the fantasy world as a term for somebody who’s not human like a gnome, fairy, pixie, elf” “When you play that you’re clipping your balls and I was like … I can’t be clipped guys” “And they do that with nationalities and many more. We gotta be careful”

Pubs deserve our backing. I’m not sure some of @JohnHealey_MP's choices here do though... Our 20% cut in business rates will benefit thousands of pubs, clubs and music venues across the country.

Just don’t have plastic surgery because people can tell. It’s gross. Take your wrinkles. Accept aging. That is dignified.

This is what I call modern art. None of that leftist nonsense. More power to the meme makers. Great work @CrewkerneGaz

If you are tech-right, you are consciously or subconsciously demoralized by the fact that EAs have been right over and over and over again, and so you have a strong bias to believe 1) AI performance is overstated, 2) even if AI works, this time won't be different economically i.e. AI will not take jobs, 3) the political economy of 2) is not worth thinking about. So no one on the right has a vision for the future in which we get ASI and it radically concentrates power, demanding some formula based on human values to allocate resources. I want to live in a future oriented around glory, heroism, and beauty. EAs want to live in a world of technocratic galactic equitism. If you agree with me, you should start taking AI and EA predictions around it very seriously.

Biologists are exceptionally high-skill and exceptionally underpaid. The biggest risk for zero-day exploits in bio are disgruntled PhDs. If you want to contribute to biosecurity, the best thing to do is to pay post-docs more.

Brutal comms setup, everyone wants you to fail and grave dance if you're Gates' kid. I think it's pretty likely there is a totally innocuous explanation for this, and that it wasn't intentional fraud.

Since I talked about it in the latest podcast episode, I might share my thoughts here as well: Do not use drugs. Do not use psychedelics. There are a select few men who can use them, but in the overwhelming majority of cases, it is best to steer well clear of mind-altering drugs. If you open up a portal to where demons (to use a most poetic term) exist you must be strong enough to resist any potential malicious influences from those realms – lest you get “one-shotted by an Ayahuasca demon” (to paraphrase a famous Landshark quote.

just want to remind you one more time that significantly lowering the cost of housing would solve, overnight, almost every single problem in the country

What’s great about SF is that you walk out of a bar in the summer and the wind is blowing 20 knots, the sky is grey, it’s bone-chilling cold and the seagulls are squawking and you feel like you’re on the deck of a ship rounding Cape Horn while walking home.

No one informed me that the coolest looking movie ever made is a dramatization of a 1,000 year old epic poem from Kyrgyzstan. The Universe of Manas (1995), Melis Ubekyev
