TRUTH: False. This plan eliminates the state income tax over time and shifts toward a system where you decide when you’re taxed based on what you buy, instead of the government taking it out of every paycheck. It also helps clean up a tax code full of loopholes and carveouts, making it simpler and more transparent. LIE #2: “It hurts working families.” TRUTH: This plan includes real protections. If the sales tax base is expanded, local governments must offset nearly all new revenue by lowering other taxes like property or local sales taxes. The goal is relief and balance, not increasing the burden. LIE #3: “This is being forced through.”
TRUTH: Completely false. This does not eliminate the income tax today. It simply puts constitutional question on the ballot asking voters if they want to allow the legislature to phase out the income tax over time. 
You are voting on whether to give that authority, not on immediate elimination. BOTTOM LINE: No income tax. More control over your money.

I retired after a 47 year career where I worked with a number of DoT's and government entities. Here is my take on the situation. I can say this only because I am retired. In most (not all!) situations, the heads of DoT's are construction guys (and campaign donors) with nearly zero experience in highway operations. Their phones are NOT turned on at 2:30am. They don't pay attention to developments in weather science and they believe the state of the art is about the same as 1990. So, there is little sense of urgency even though there is a winter storm warning for 4-8 inches of snow. We had similar problems in Olathe, KS today. Here's my forecast issued yesterday morning: mikesmithenterprisesblog.com/2025/11/more-s… We had 3.5 to 4" -- a perfect forecast. Yet, ten hours after the snow began, and even though we were on divided state highways, zero were plowed. Zero. With temperatures in the mid-20's plus a brief period of freezing drizzle, roads had become incredibly slick by 3:30pm. It is like the airlines: there is no learning curve. Each incident is looked at in isolation rather than fixing a systemic problem.

Countless wrecks, countless cars abandoned, countless roads that MODOT has the duty to keep clear and safe left in dangerous conditions HOURS after a well known storm hits. Literally five hours getting home for a ride that should have taken a half hour at most. Who saved the day? The local cities (St. Peters, O’Fallon, Weldon Spring, Lake St. Louis) whose roads were spectacular compared to the horrific public health crisis MoDOT caused. And for those haters trying to make excuses for the biggest waste of tax dollars who fails Missourians year after year: many of us that were paying attention at 830am to Hyperlocal Extreme Weather page, our weather appa, and local weather folks which showed that the path of the storm sped up and would be here by 11. Moreover, as the Missouri legislature continued to designate more and more money to MoDOT, the Missouri Supreme Court recently held that MoDOT can do whatever the hell they want with the money we allocate them even if it conflicts with what the legislature has informed them to use money on. This needs to change. At least here in the St. Louis region, MODOT is a failure and has been for too long. I’m sick and tired of the baseless excuses as your lives and your property are literally at risk any time a foreseen storm moves into our area. They have become a blatant waste of money which we all fund them with. I’ve seen enough and I’ve heard from enough people saying this MUST change. To the people at MODOT that put their lives on the line, I’ve heard from you as well. And thank you for doing the best that you can with the failures your (lack of) leadership has handed time and time again. This storm, like many, was a complete failure upon leadership who should have taken action if not early busking, at the time they noticed (like the public did) that the storm was going to hit much earlier than originally reported. I’m going to be filing legislation that will change this. My hope is to make this a bipartisan issue for all those fed up with th same old crappy story MoDOT leadership gives us year after year.

I rarely go on Twitter, but when I do, I poke around a bit. I’m starting to see people take pride in being blocked by different deplorables for asking simple questions or pointing something innocuous out, and I don’t think I’m getting the credit I deserve for starting that trend
