On this day, 1761, nearly 100K Marathas died on the battlefield of Panipat, giving it all for Dev, Desh and Dharma. Commanded by the valiant Sadashivrao Bhau, they shattered enemy formations, fighting ferociously with grit and valor against overwhelming odds.

“Invasion” lmfaooo. The Indian subcontinent was mainly dominated by two genotypes: the indigenous AASI and Iranian Zagros. Even the IVC was formed when these two populations mixed. Around 600 years after the end of the IVC, the Steppe people started migrating into the subcontinent. And the funny thing is, Steppe DNA in the Indian subcontinent mostly came through Steppe women, which means the Steppe Aryan women intermarried with the local Indian population. Also the steppe aryans were not whites lmfaooo

Marathi Brahmins in particular, from Tatya Tope, Vasudev Balwant Phadke and the Chapekar Brothers to Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, played a disproportionately stellar role in India’s freedom movement.
khan noonain singh@wrathoffkhan

whenever I come across some unsung hero from indian freedom struggle, 6/10 times he turns out to be a marathi (or a bengali rest of the time). marathis don't get enough credit for their role in indian freedom movement tbf.

@Thinkerks Imagine having guts to shoot a commanding officer Rand at the age of 19 because his men disrespected Hinduism and gods.

Bal Thackeray’s iconic cartoon in 80’s decade. Yet, the man who endured 14 years inhuman torture in Kala Pani + 13 years house detention is seen to be a traitor AND the 2nd person who submitted the mercy petition to release in just 2 weeks jail is seen to be a freedom fighter.

Another Indian fallacy. Though Sanskrit is very important when you discuss evolution and propagation of Indo-European languages, European languages didn’t originate from Sanskrit.
akash Lal@thebeardguy17

@sidhant @WIONews Yes major languages of the world developed from Sanskrit hence the similarity

This is not a cultural connection. It’s primarily a linguistic one, an Indo-European language family connection, to be precise.
Koustav Mandal@KoustavInsights

@sidhant @WIONews Beautiful cultural connection! 'Sambandh' shows our deep shared roots and growing friendship with Nordic nations. Proud of India's strong global ties. 🇮🇳

Fascinating for etymology buffs. And on further search, it’s true! ‘Samband’ in Icelandic terms means ‘relationship’, or ‘connection’. It is a compound word formed by two distinct parts:  - Sam: meaning ‘together’, ‘same’ or ‘co-‘ - Band: meaning ‘bond’, ‘tie’, or ‘connection It comes from the Old Norse ‘samband’, and if we go further, we are entering the territory of reconstructed (but not documented) languages of Proto-Germanic and PIE. There is a Sanskrit path, and the meanings have ended up similar because of their shared claim to PIE - however, we must remember that PIE is entirely reconstructed and undocumented. सम्बन्ध (sambandhá), which also means ‘relationship’ or ‘binding together’.

"Sambandh" is an Icelandic terms, Island PM Kristrún Frostadóttir tells PM Modi @WIONews, pointing to language connect
