At the #GaryCon artist's booth I learned that Larry Elmore was willing to do the covers of the new Dragonlance trilogy but was told that they wanted a digital artist because digital art has more "pop." So instead of a cover like the one on the left we got the one on the right.

@Cavandocovas The initial DC is your warlock save, which includes proficiency.

@ThinkingDM about the Grasp of the Kraken ability, that is, cd resistance = 8 + charisma + proficiency However, right after that it says "The spectral tentacle's Strength (Athletics) bonus is 2 + Does this mean cd is 8 +2 + charisma + proficiency?

Wrong question. What DMs should do is create a list of choices that tie directly into the setting and campaign, and work with the players to pick from these and help flesh them out into something that works for everyone.

@Dominikmallen If you can't find your skill in an alphabetical list of 18 items, maybe tabletop gaming has too much reading to be your hobby.

@ThinkingDM The new sheet is better. The DM should say, “Can you roll a Strength (Athletics) check”. Player looks at the Strength box, then their Athletics skill bonus, and rolls the die.. The 2014 sheet is a long list that no one wants to read through

D&D's new character sheet fell into a common trap. Grouping skills by ability is bad design. It's easier to find information searching 1 box, not 5. New players don't know what skill matches what ability. You know what they do know? The alphabet. Sort skills by alpha. #dnd

Now that this has gotten some attention, I can reveal my devious plan to promote my own character sheet:

Secondarily, swapping skills with different ability scores is one of the easiest ways to add some variety to D&D's system, but this already-underemployed tactic is trampled by the new character sheet pairing them together. Doesn't make it impossible, just more confusing.

Question for #dnd5e DMs out there: What kind of "generic NPCs" (think Archmage, Assassin, Bandit, Scout, etc) do you wish had statblocks/had more variety of statblocks? I've got a big list I'm working on, but I feel like I'm probably missing some important ones. #dnd
