The Government tasked a Working Group with drafting an official definition of Islamophobia — now repackaged as “anti-Muslim hostility”. The group operated in secrecy throughout the process. A recent investigative briefing by the FSU’s Director of Research and Policy, @DavidRoseUK, revealed that each of the five members had troubling links to Islamist organisations, including the Muslim Council of Britain and Muslim Engagement and Development. Another striking aspect of the Working Group is the exclusion of moderate Muslim voices — not least former Home Office adviser and founder of Tell MAMA, Fiyaz Mughal, whose charity monitors anti-Muslim hate. Here is a list of EVERYTHING that has happened to Christians in Syria since Jolani took power: 1) THE SYRIAN CONSTITUTION MADE CHRISTIANS SECOND CLASS CITIZENS FROM THE OUTSET. In March 2025, Jolani signed a constitutional declaration placing Syria under Islamic law for 5 years. The constitution requires the head of state to be Muslim. Sharia is now primary jurisprudence. 2) CHURCHES ARE UNDER ATTACK On April 6 2025, Islamists invaded the Church of St George in Budan & poured petrol over the seats & planted explosive devices. On June 22 2025, there was a suicide bombing at Mar Elias Greek Orthodox Church in Damascus during Sunday service. 22 Christians were killed & 63 wounded. 3) CHRISTIANS ARE BEING KILLED AT RANDOM - February 1, 2025: Eli Najjar Taqla, 21 years old, shot dead in Muhardeh. - February 4, 2025: Bashar Elias kidnapped in front of his family. His brother and sister beaten trying to defend him. His status is unknown. - October 2025: HTS-affiliated gunmen opened fire on a group of young Christian men in Wadi al-Nasara. 3 people were killed. - A pastor was among at least 12 Christians killed in southern Syria in separate violence 4) THE TOTAL ISLAMIZATION OF SCHOOLS Curriculums have replaced phrases like "path of goodness" with "Islamic path". They have changed lines about "those who have gone astray" to specifically name "Jews and Christians". Syriac Christian schools in the northeast were shut down & Assyrian children can no longer be taught in their ancestral language. 5) THE ALCOHOL POGROM (ONGOING) On March 22, 2026, Damascus banned alcohol. Exceptions were made for Christian neighborhoods. On March 28, a Sectarian mob from a Sunni town stormed the Christian town of Suqaylabiyah & attacked shops, homes and cars. HTS militias are intimidating Christians at checkpoints across the country. 6) THE ERASURE OF SYRIAC (ONGOING) In the northeastern part of the country where Kurds & Assyrians live, the Syriac language is being erased. Assyrian Christians have had no part of official discussions following the agreement between the HTS & SDF. As a result, Syriac has not been included as an official language. The Syriac Orthodox Patriarch formally requested Syriac — the ancient language of Syria, the language of Christ — is recognized as a national language alongside Arabic and Kurdish. NO response. THE BOTTOM LINE: 1) Syria's Christian population has declined 85% since 2011. Under Jolani it is accelerating. 2) The United States has certified the Jolani government 3) No US official has publicly conditioned recognition on minority protections 4) No international body has intervened on behalf of Syria's Christians 5) The last indigenous Christians of the Fertile Crescent are disappearing in real time. Over the past several days, Iran has repeatedly targeted the holy sites of all three monotheistic religions in Jerusalem with ballistic missiles. In one strike, missile fragments crashed meters from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. To protect worshippers, Israel asked members of all faiths to temporarily abstain from worshipping at the Christian, Muslim and Jewish holy sites in Jerusalem’s Old City. Today, out of special concern for his safety, Cardinal Pizzaballa was asked to refrain from holding mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Even though I understand this concern, as soon as I learned about the incident with Cardinal Pizzaballa, I instructed the authorities to enable the Patriarch to hold services as he wishes.
