Slight change in the final version of the trade with Mohamadou Gueye heading to Charlotte instead of Minnesota. This satisfies touch requirements for the Hornets. He’s on a non-guaranteed minimum salary and could waive him at any time. They have 18 players on standard deals.

Celtics are now $1.7 million under the luxury tax line and could go into the season as is with 14 players on standard contracts. They could fit Dillon Mitchell on a rookie minimum salary to their 15th spot while evading the tax, or sign him to a two-way and maintain flexibility.
Adam Himmelsbach@AdamHimmelsbach

According to a league source, the Celtics are waiving guard Dalano Banton, who was on a non-guaranteed deal. Celtics' roster dips back to 14 players, and timing allows Banton to seek a new opp now.

Jordan Clarkson receiving the veteran minimum and will count as $2.4 million for the Knicks. He will have veto rights to any trade since he’s re-signing on a one-year deal. They’re now $3.3 million below the second apron with 13 players and with room for one more minimum.
Shams Charania@ShamsCharania

Free agent Jordan Clarkson has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million deal to return to the New York Knicks, Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Brandon Cavanaugh tell ESPN.

They could also move Zeke Nnaji or Julian Strawther, but the savings would still result in minimum level players replacing them to stay under the second apron.

Nuggets paths to staying under the second apron: 1: Significantly reduce payroll by trading a starter 2: Sign and trade Peyton Watson for draft picks, occupy four opening roster spots with two veteran minimums and their two second-round picks on rookie minimum deals
Yossi Gozlan@YossiGozlan

Jonas Valanciunas leaves $2 million in dead money. The Nuggets have until the end of August to decide to stretch it over three years (extra $1.3 million in savings). They’re now $7.8 million under the second apron and open up the $6 million taxpayer mid-level exception.

Updated this post detailing how the Clippers could now sign and trade for Peyton Watson (or Cameron Johnson) by expanding the Kawhi Leonard trade, which isn't official yet, now that they officially traded John Collins to the Pistons. thirdapron.com/p/kawhi-leonar…

Isaiah Hartenstein also receiving the mutual player/team option for 2028-29. The Thunder starting him lower at $23.1 million leaves the Thunder $11.3 million above the second apron.

Ron Harper Jr. getting roughly $211K more than his minimum over four years with his Non Bird rights. The bump could come on his starting salary where he’d earn $3 million salary as opposed to $2.8 million.
Michael Scotto@MikeAScotto

Sources: The Boston Celtics signed Ron Harper Jr. to a four-year, $13.7 million deal, which includes the first two years fully guaranteed, a third-year non-guaranteed salary, and a fourth-year non-guaranteed team option. He gets above the minimum and $6.5 million guaranteed.

It could become a five teamer with the Nuggets if the Clippers can get Peyton Watson for Collins, with picks and a trade exception heading to Denver instead.

In all likelihood, the Pistons will trade Isaiah Stewart for John Collins via sign and trade in what will look like at least a four-team deal. Pistons gets John Collins Grizzlies get Isaiah Stewart, AJ Johnson and picks Mavericks get Santi Aldama Clippers get a trade exception
Yossi Gozlan@YossiGozlan

The Pistons have acquired Isaiah Joe as a standalone deal, meaning they’re absorbing him with their mid-level exception. They could renounce cap holds to absorb him with cap space, but that seems unlikely. They have $3.7 million remaining of their MLE.

The Kings get $16.74 million in relief against the aprons when factoring in DeMar DeRozan’s $1 million in unlikely incentives. They will be wiped off their cap sheet by waiving him.
Yossi Gozlan@YossiGozlan

DeMar DeRozan has a $10 million partial guarantee. The Kings will reduce their payroll by at least $15.74 million by waiving him, getting them under the first and second apron and opening up their exceptions. They are just $1.3 million above the luxury tax line with 13 players.

The Celtics can get to $10.8 million in first apron space by waiving Dalano Banton. They’ll also create a small $2.9 million trade exception for Jaylen Brown with Paul George waiving his trade bonus. They’ve got the $27.7 million, $8.2 million, and six total small TPEs.
Sam Quinn@SamQuinnCBS

This is potentially significant. The Celtics have minimal hard cap space to potentially use their $27.7 million TPE. With PG waiving the trade bonus, Boston is around $8 million below the first apron. If they trade out Hauser and Banton they can take back a $21.6 million player.

While I’ve been traveling this week, Sam’s coverage on CBS and the @ThirdApron pod has been a comprehensive cheat code for staying on top of the NBA offseason. This piece on Minnesota being the best option for LeBron is a good example of his style and the quality of his work. Also think he makes a lot of good points.
Sam Quinn@SamQuinnCBS

I think LeBron James should sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves. This my opus on why. cbssports.com/nba/news/lebro…

The Kings have been quietly busy. Precious Achiuwa signed with a portion of mid-level or bi-annual exception. Devin Carter traded with a second. Emanuel Sharpe & Daeqwon Plowden got minimum salaries. They're deep in the tax and over the second apron, but that'll change soon.
