I'm grateful to have my novel, The Toll of Fortune, mentioned by the one and only Yootoober @wilhelmapolist. Wilhelm, if you're not familiar, is an ascerbic video editor/creator whose deadpan, rapid-fire satire excoriates the boomer-created world, exposing each and every thread of hypocrisy.

If this is true, I want the Boring Company to build a Hyperloop between Montreal and Toronto. The Canadian government is trying to build high speed rail along that corridor, and that project will bulldoze its way through several small towns (which the train won't stop in) along the way. If a Hyperloop is cheaper as well as less intrusive, and much faster in the end, there's no reason not to do this instead.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

The @BoringCompany could build a Hyperloop tunnel from downtown SF to downtown LA for <5% of this cost and it would be a technological marvel exceeding any high speed rail on Earth

For those wondering, this mouthful is "Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, 2-Spirit*, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and (everything else we didn't remember to include in this list)." It is therefore now the Canadian government's position that First Nations women who get murdered (invariably by their own men, but they leave that part out) constitute a sexual identity. Which is a hell of a kink. *2-Spirit is a made up word that means "some kind of fag, but First Nations"
Samantha Smith@SamanthaTaghoy

“MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+” The Canadian government just dropped this absolute monstrosity (and no, it isn’t satire).

This is still one of the most offensive things to happen in recent times. A genius, co-discoverer of DNA, unpersoned because he spoke a forbidden scientific truth. The equivalent of Galileo being persecuted by the Church

@Will_Tanner_1 Absent From this discussion: any mention of the coincidence of Thune recessing the senate and Israel forcing trump into a pointless conflict that changes nothing, then they try to pass an amnesty bill. Just luck I guess.

Everyone is so focused on Israel, Iran, the Persian Gulf, but aside from the shiny lights and loud sounds no outcome is a historical game-changer. This was all a side show to distract the chattering classes from the SAVE Act. It's surely no coincidence that when pressure got too hot for Thune he calls a recess, gets Israel to bait Trump on Iran, then House RINOs introduce an amnesty bill. Has no one seen Wag the Dog?

@HomericFuturist Absolutely but let’s not forget this is only possible with traitors like the Republican senate leadership to do the bidding of hostile foreign governments and their intelligence agencies.

Here’s the issue, we were assured by the same guy last summer in similar terms that we’d achieved our objectives and everything was back on track Then out of nowhere Israel produced new “intelligence” saying things weren’t good and off we went What’s to stop them producing more “intelligence” The problem isn’t the outcome of this campaign, it’s that a foreign power can dog walk us into a conflict whenever it suits them Until we’ve broken that dependency we aren’t a free country

@ArtemisConsort @Steve_Sailer Well, they've used an elastic definitions of diversity and innovation to satisfy their conclusion. Throw in the fact that most research papers and patents are utterly without merit (if not total fabrications) and they've proven once again how worthless economists are.

As @Steve_Sailer noted, when you check the surnames of the actual inventors they were almost all NW European Americans. So the theory is that mere proximity to e.g. Sicilians made Anglos better at designing machines, while the Sicilians themselves didn’t register many patents. Or, y’know, the far more likely explanation that both innovators and migrants cluster in the same big cities, and diversity has no causal effect on innovation.
Vincent Geloso@VincentGeloso

My colleague Jonathan Schulz has a piece just out at Journal of Political Economy showing that cultural diversity boosts innovation. Using surnames and their composition (by linguistic distance), they find that rising diversity explains America's big innovation boost. Years ago, Leonard Dudley (my first EH prof at UdeM) compared ideas to states of matter. Solids don’t mix--orthodoxies just sit there. Gases mix effortlessly, but nothing sticks--lots of talk, little structure. Liquids sit in between: fluid enough to recombine, structured enough to crystallize into something usable. That middle state is where progress actually happens. And progress happens if more liquids are mixed. In his case, he was talking about the importance of language (something that is rarely discussed in economics -- but totally on point for someone who grew up or evolved in Quebec), but it applies to what Jonathan did. Also, on a related note, this is proof that GMU is the better place to be to do economics

If America is an "idea", then doesn't that mean that those who, like this dog-torturing communist, don't even pretend to believe in the "idea" of America can be deported? Or is the "idea" of America only a one-way street that allows in hordes of foreigners who mumble the right words, but doesn't allow for the deportation of those who don't believe in said words?

@Will_Tanner_1 @HomericFuturist Trump got played by the Israel first neocons. His based gets demoralized, don’t vote in Nov and the congressional makeup (dem, GOP matter it’s the uniparty) has enough votes to remove him from office.

@HomericFuturist Again, not that now was the time to do this But I do think there are reasons behind it that, from an imperial perspective (particularly if you side with Corbett over Mahan about the nature of maritime power), it could make sense

Yeah... America Did it again@MordredBro

@HomericFuturist We would've lost the war if we did nothing and let them get a nuclear weapon. This is an opportunity we should've done a long time ago. Best way to win is to achieve total victory and get out. Can't have another North Korea

@jondelarroz It had its moments, some of which were some good dark sci-fi. Realistic look and feel in S1. Some Bad casting choices though even though others were good. Overall mixed with high variance

I saw a listicle that showed The Expanse as one of the best sci-fi series of all time. I never watched it because the authors joined a cancel mob against me and were pricks. Is it actually that good?

No, empathy is not good, particularly if funneled into an abstracted and bureaucratic structure. That's how you get abominations like this Charity, direct giving to a member of your community, is good That is different from "empathy", which is typically just a whip the gay race communists use to drive the wages of the productive into the hands of the criminal underclass You should be much less empathetic
Arthur MacWaters@ArthurMacwaters

Empathy is good But fraudsters and embezzlers have hijacked our empathy $81k/yr per homeless person $52k/yr per capita income This is insanity and is clearly untenable.
