We review air purifiers. We buy them and test them under the same conditions to compare their performance. Our tests reveal what manufacturers won’t tell you.

In a bid to replace falling ad revenue, big media publishers are inundating the web with bad product recommendations you can’t trust. Google is killing independent sites like ours through inaction. We hope to still be here to see things change: housefresh.com/david-vs-digit…

$5 air quality monitors from Ikea? Should you get one? My local Ikea is selling off discontinued VINDRIKTNING particulate air quality monitors super cheap. I figured I could get one for every room, which could be fun. youtube.com/shorts/6owRPjd… The downside is that they just display green, yellow and red based on the air quality thresholds set by Ikea, and that is a problem which AirGradient pointed out several years ago. The VINDRIKTNING can show green when other standards consider the air sketchy, and it can show yellow instead of red when the air is really bad.

IKEA sells a $30 air quality monitor now. Amazon has an affordable monitor too. Sensors are shrinking fast. Issue 02 of The Air Quality Index looks at what's driving air quality monitoring into the mainstream. New devices from big-name brands, miniaturisation (including the Bosch BMV080, a PM sensor roughly the size of a fingernail), and smarter ways to visualise pollution data. breathesafeair.beehiiv.com/p/issue-02-the…

The importance of clean air in schools was excellently explained by Baroness Linforth in the House of Lords. The video is only 4 minutes. In it, the Baroness walks through why this issue is so important, and critically, offers solutions. youtube.com/watch?v=27cH_0…

Recently, I've received several emails requesting H13 or even higher-grade filters. I would still like to explain here why H13 and higher-grade filters are not a good choice for air purifiers. A good air purifier's primary goal is to clean the air in a room as quickly as possible. There is a specific metric to describe this: CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate). The higher the CADR, the faster the purifier captures airborne particles on the filter. Achieving a high CADR requires two conditions: High filtration efficiency – the filter should capture a high percentage of particles that pass through it. Large airflow volume – a large amount of air should flow through the filter per unit of time. If the airflow is large but the filtration efficiency is low, only a few particles are captured each pass. Conversely, if the efficiency is high but the airflow is small, the total number of captured particles is also low. But these two factors contradict each other. With the same fan, using a higher-grade filter improves efficiency, but it also increases resistance, which reduces the airflow. So a higher-grade filter is not always better. Filters like H13 or H14 commonly found on the market have very high resistance, significantly reducing airflow and thereby lowering CADR — meaning slower purification. After extensive testing, I found that the E11 filter offers the best balance. With about 95% filtration efficiency, its airflow loss is minimal, resulting in the highest overall CADR and thus the fastest cleaning speed.

If it spreads by aerosolized particles, why not send high-capacity, low-noise air purifiers to run in each cabin to limit spread? “More than 100 people are still on the cruise ship but they are not showing any symptoms. The cabins are being disinfected" npr.org/2026/05/07/nx-…

Anyone building a mini DIY mini air purifier for travel? I just made the Starvind Box Silverstone Dimensions: 11.5 × 3.75 × 15 in → 647 po³ Seems quite easy to bring to cafeteria tables, motel rooms, dentist offices, etc. Can run on battery. Very simple and quick build using: - 1× Starvind filter - Silverstone 184 iPro fan - Noctua NA-FC1 controller -female DC to 3-4 pin female connector -battery pack ok 12V ACDC adjustable power supply -foam board + aluminium tape Preliminary fast measurements (not lab tested yet): → 76.5 CFM measured airflowthrough the Starvind filter → ~39 dBA on low speed → Estimated PM1 CADR ≈ 54 CFM (76.5 cfm× ~70% filtration estimated) For context: - IKEA UppåtVind (480 po³): 28 CFM / 47 dBA - Northbox Mini (1080 po³): 52 CFM / 37 dBA 🎧 Listen to the real sound (recorded with iPhone, not perfect but gives a good idea): youtube.com/shorts/-zzXn9M… (For those interested — gives a rough idea, the sound is noticeably different in real life) Looks interesting for the mini category so far. Will maybe do proper chamber testing soon to measure the real numbers. If you're into portable mini DIY purifiers, this one might be worth checking out.

Occasionally I run into some Know Nothing who exhales exasperatedly that "CO2 is NOT bad for you." Usually when I am sharing @ThisHouseFresh's excellent CO2 monitor articles. This lets me shut them down in an entirely new way. Giggidy for that. But sucks for health.
The Washington Post@washingtonpost

A Post analysis reveals that rising carbon dioxide levels are reducing the nutritional value of crops like chickpeas and rice, potentially leading to widespread nutrient deficiencies. Experts warn that this trend could exacerbate health issues, particularly in poorer regions. wapo.st/4eT0YuU

This is what's happening to YouTube. This is one of my most popular videos. It's how to fix a UEFI bootloader. As you can see the traffic has been cut in half over the last 6 months. But if you Google how to fix a UEFI bootloader, Gemini will give you my exact step by step process. Even the commands it cites are copied directly from my video. I got no royalty payments and don't even get a link to the original video. I simply lost the traffic and Google is able to provide more value from stolen content. AI is going to destroy the content industry on the internet and when it's gone, there will be nothing left to train the AI. Since AI can't come up with anything original it relies on stolen content and it can't steal what doesn't exist if it puts creators out of business.

The UK passed a bill to phase out the sale of tobacco nationwide. Anyone born after 2008 will be barred from buying cigarettes, vapes or heated tobacco. The bill requires smoke-free areas like playgrounds and hospitals to also become vape-free. 🔗 euronews.com/health/2026/04…

@cybercpu @LeadingEdgePCs It's madness. We analyzed traffic changes across over 500 websites in 43 niches and found that nearly 4 in 5 have experienced traffic drops since 2023 - - with almost half of all websites analyzed seeing Google Search traffic drop by 60%. @LeadingEdgePCs I've heard the problem is even worse on websites. Smaller websites have seen traffic drop by 70 to 90%. I've seen a 30% drop, but 30% hurts but isn't going to kill me. 90% absolutely would.
