Thisuri Wanniarachchi

After 7+ years of research, writing, and revisions, I successfully defended my dissertation and finally completed my PhD. Dr. Thisuri Wanniarachchi—still feels unreal.

I visited cyclone-affected areas in Kegalle District, west of Colombo in Sri Lanka, to better understand the scale of the damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah. Landslides, damaged roads, and disrupted access to water and electricity continue to affect daily life. These realities underscore the urgency of timely support. ADB is advancing a $200 million Emergency Assistance Loan to restore critical infrastructure, reconnect communities, and support livelihoods where needs are most urgent. Through this support, @ADB_HQ is stepping up its efforts to address immediate needs and strengthen resilience for the future.

PhD graduation day 🍾

If we are now looking at an average of $85 a barrel for oil for 2026 then that could shave off around 0.3-0.4pp from global growth. Headline inflation could rise by 60 bps. Before the Iran conflict global growth was projected at 3.3% for 2026 on the assumption oil would average $65 a barrel.

This is more than just bad TV. @masterchefau should cancel or disassociate themselves from this travesty. And I hope these contestants sue.

We have done it before and we will do it again.

The Foreign Affairs portfolio is extraordinarily demanding. On any given day the FM is managing bilateral communications with multiple countries. Sri Lanka is currently navigating a very complex crisis diplomatically. Reducing that work to a 30-second comment is simplistic.

I was a staunch supporter of Yahapalana govt back then driven by hope for progress. Always puzzled me what really went down in offices within walking distance of my workplace, to cause such a clusterf**k toward the end of the term. @ThisuriW’s book is an insightful read & makes me chuckle while I continue as to how naive our hopes had been.
