@MerkelTech@marcinplaz This first prototype goes down to 0.5 mm XY and an unfortunate 12 mm in Z, but our gen 2 design being built in the coming months is...
One flaw, IMO, in most of the arguments about the Midjourney ultrasonic scan tech has been all-or-nothing thinking.
Frequent, broadly applied cancer screenings aren’t the only possible use-case or the only way it will provide value. The tech does not live or die on that one use-case.
In fact, they don’t plan to use it for medical diagnostics at all at first — only for general fitness support. Thus they will collect tons of data and be able to analyze with medical researchers the value propositions for other potential use-cases both big and small before deciding.
@midjourney How do we live to be 200?300?600?or even a 1000 years old 😍😍🥳🥳… and can we? I would love to!!! 🥺🥺🤌🏻🤌🏻❤️🎯… Then again🤔we don’t own neither the start or end of our lifelong journey🥺.
We're gonna do a Midjourney Medical AMA (ask me anything ) right here all afternoon. Post your questions below and we'll try to answer as many as we can! ❤️
@TheCosmicMuffet@midjourney We are launching in "read only" mode for maximum safety body composition analysis. The physics and biology tells us that the technological potential of USCT is incredible though, yeah.
@midjourney My impression is that scanners like this can also induce sensations. Will you be getting permission/have the capability to record calibrating signals and their responses in the patient?
@Loran58082375@midjourney You need to hold your breath for several seconds to scan the head, so we aren't really doing that right now. I hope that post-singularity your bathtub will do this. I want to make a round soaking tub version and ship them everywhere right now but the technology isn't there yet
@midjourney Is it a full body scan ie head/brain too ?
in a ten year period do you think there will be a shower size equipment available for any household ?
@GeryPollet@midjourney Water is the coupling medium for the ultrasonic waves. Attenuation and scattering are super high in air. Same reason that gel is applied when traditional ultrasound is used in hospitals
@Poplinecreation@midjourney It does, though we are just doing body composition at launch. Lots and lots of testing to do before we can do anything more for consumers.
@zmzlois@midjourney This is Ultrasound CT and we have 768 GB of VRAM in the scanner just to keep the machine running. Much of the processing is done on our remote servers.
It'll be somewhere around 7 minutes when the spa opens ~18 months from now with our Gen 2 design and 1 minute when our new ultrasound chips come out of Taiwan in 2029. We compensate for movement as much as we can (mostly needed for 3d). 70cm is modern MRI diameter - wider is more expensive and less accurate, so tradeoffs
@kenwshew1@midjourney We are developing the full hardware and software stack. First brick and mortar flagship spa with 9 scanners opens by the end of 2027
@JoshMeyer@midjourney Felt like the ghost in the shell movie from the 90s to me when our founder David was filming that. Same feeling whenever I get scanned myself with the proposed lighting schemes. Surreal!
@tbuzzdaily@midjourney We are running IRB approved human trials right now and will continue to ramp those up. Going well so far, but lots of improvements to make / work still to do.
@midjourney How far along is the technology? Have you already run human trials to confirm it actually works like you hope it will, or are you still experimenting to figure things out?
@fuulu92@midjourney Studies involving we think many thousands of participants at a minimum are required and then awaiting FDA review and feedback. We're just planning to launch detailed body composition maps and analysis for general wellness next year though
@pareshmehta48@midjourney Exisisting imaging modalities should remain in place as they all have their strengths and weaknesses. We hope it could be "human civilization altering" level tech long-term though
@spauxe@midjourney We want to support both walk-ins and subscriptions. We'll try out different models in the flagship spa and see what works for people. We'll do some polls ahead of time to see what the community prefers too
@ralphtheodori@midjourney Join our discord and / or apply to work with us! The laws exist for a reason, though few of them exist just to "go faster" ofc
@midjourney How can one contribute to such journeys? How can we accelerate innovation in this world? Do you think FDA and European laws throttle or slow down your ambitions?
Thanks 😇
