The @uscensusbureau temporarily removed Current Population Survey microdata today as part of a broader federal website shutdown targeting demographic and statistical information. This disruption broke @PolicyEngineUS's build process and affects critical analysis across sectors. At Google, I relied on this public data to inform business decisions—and it's equally vital for research and operations across government agencies, nonprofits, and academia. While Census has restored access, we're implementing our own backup system to ensure continuity. The federal government must maintain reliable, politics-free access to this critical digital infrastructure. Public data powers research, innovation, and evidence-based decision-making across our economy—its integrity and availability should never be compromised.
