@xanbarksdale In my opinion being the backup prepares you better for the next step. Ready to go at a moment’s notice-always the pressure on you to perform when you do get to play so you can earn more PT. If you’re going to play in college that battling mindset gets you better prepared.

Highly competitive players don't like sharing a dugout with players that don't know how to compete. Same can be said for the GRINDERS, they don't want to be around the lazy, in competitive settings. PREPARE to COMPETE!! Do highly competitive players want YOU as a teammate?

What percentage of HS players think they're good at throwing and catching? My guess, 95% plus. In reality, less than 25% of HS players are actually good at throwing and catching! It has to be practiced intentionally every day! Throwing and catching is prerequisite #1.

Such a huge fall off in the basics, less and less kids know how to bunt, hit, catch, and throw every time I show up to a youth field. I know most coaches are volunteers but if you care about the future of this game we gotta do better for these kids end of story.

Youth Coaches! As a coach who’s rebuilding a high school program,(in the last ten seasons 27 % winning percentage) I tell our kids you can’t do anything beyond fundamentals until you get the fundamentals down and cemented in. We do rep after rep after rep. We haven’t gone over any philosophy yet. We’re just trying to learn how to throw and catch the ball correctly. I shouldn’t have to be doing this at the high school level. This needs to be done when these kids start playing baseball. We are doing fundamental skills that should’ve been ironed in as a 10 year old baseball player. I see this problem across the country. Fundamentals first…

The portal trend. Kid goes to D-1 school as freshman...doesn't play a lot...instead of dropping down and going juco/D2 etc... kid goes to another D-1 school and doesn't play again. Simply make the same mistake twice, instead of learning from the first mistake.
