I have never seen the infamous original theatrical version or was that familiar with the films troubled production & release but the new CALIGULA ULTIMATE CUT is an impressive & lavish spectacle. An epic & decadent tale of the corruptive nature of absolute power. I was in awe.

I still think about Caligula: The Ultimate Cut a fair amount. I saw it at Fantastic Fest 2023 and I'm so glad I got to see it in a theater, truly an audacious and insane vision on that movie that I'm so glad saw the light of day.

@dallywhitty @bangormet I’m sorry to hear that about the encoding, I definitely got the vibe from them that they were rushing for a bargain bin release. The packaging looks great from what I’ve seen, but obviously the encoding is far more important.

@dallywhitty @TBanerjee214910 The short answer is that we had to follow a clear arc. That scene was a late addition to the script, it only reinforced things we already knew.

One of my favourite scenes in Caligula: The Ultimate Cut (not included in the theatrical version) is this one, in which Caligula has a breakdown in the Temple of Jupiter and destroys each of the gods' statue heads. "You never answer me. You don't exist."

What’s the most insane montage in a movie or TV show?

@TBanerjee214910 @dallywhitty bringing the hammer down- they never shot it from an angle where it looked even remotely believable. The stills make it look dramatic, but the footage was not usable. The only place we could use it was the nightmare sequence.

@dallywhitty I also like where he throws a spear at the Isis statue in his sister's house. I was a little disapointed that the "Gold Fever" scene and the one where he bonks the priest on the head with a mallet during the sacrifice of the bull were left out.
