The fact that retiring MPs (some after just 1 term) are given a valedictory debate before every general election but the hereditary peers were given no time to commemorate their 50+ years of service and the nearly 1000 years of service by their ancestors is utterly shameful.

There’s something tragic, in the truest sense of the word, about this. A hereditary peer, who dropped the Conservative whip and backed Labour since 1998 being shushed out of his speech, and dropped from our constitution, by the socialists he supported. And then only able to say his goodbyes because of the Conservatives opposite. The Left care nothing for anything other than their own power and dented sense of righteousness. Nothing is sacred, tradition is worthless, the past irrelevant, the future never considered. Just power and self-righteousness in the present.

I think it's remarkable that Baroness Blake, a retired mid-ranking regional bureaucrat appointed to the House of Lords for life, had the arrogance to try and shut down someone who was simply saying goodbye to a place that his family has served for three generations.

@southFla79 @Chackdubdub One could argue the opposite, downfall since the hereditary peers have been put aside and gradually replaced by political cronies. British golden age rested on these hereditary peers and their unshakable service to the crown, the land and their people.
