Layoffs are impacting every unit on campus this week, and every week hereafter. The people who led us to this point are smiling for photos at great expense—money that could put food on dinner tables if people hadn’t been shown the door. Drop the tongs and go teach some students.

Maybe I don't know what "fully supports" means. Take public money and spend it on PR teams rather than teaching, learning, or research?

The more I return to travelling, the more I realize how truly abysmal my French has become. I missed the @queensu conversation group through the academic year. Is there anything over the summer? Did I mentioned I once won an academic award for French? It’s seriously *all* gone.

My interest here is deeply personal. I was born with a disability. And I’ve been fortunate to benefit from the Disability Tax Credit. Which filters out a lot of people with episodic & ongoing disabilities that aren’t visible or physical. That’s it’s own separate problem. 8/n

It got Royal Assent last June and 6+ months later is still not in force. If nothing is done it will automatically come in force June 24. But that only starts a design process. This is b/c the bill is unique — it created a new benefit but left details to AFTER parliament 2/n

@socijosh Students loved the Queer criminology course offering recently added to our roster, too! It was a seminar, capped at 25. Would you mind sharing the syllabus? It would be interesting to see the differences in approaches, and similarities.

I currently have 25 students enrolled in my online Queer Criminology course... That's the most students I've ever taught. I like to think my glowing reputation is making its way around campus.

So here we are. The 'immanent closure' talked about in the student press isn't going to happen, but how was anyone to know that, given the messaging on the issue? This PR problem is compounding financial stressors across the sector, where we hopefully can turn our attention soon

The budget pressures are shared, but the management of this issue was not handled well. People felt ignored, then were told they would experience cuts, despite having no control over the budget before or now. In the absence of a dialogue, they used what information they had.

What a PR mess. #QueensU isn't going to close. All Ontario schools are facing similar pressures--yet we're in the news. Why? The university ignored students, who reacted accordingly. The admin was standoffish at the Dec town hall, with expected results. theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…
