Above 20°C, my soul removes its bra and goes home and my body stops being a body and becomes a steamed dumpling with unresolved feelings. Now add: walking, sun, Thomas standing next to me, my natural embarrassment, and the fact that I already overheat when he simply exists within a 3-meter radius. By minute twelve, I will be operating at the internal temperature of a toasted panini. Then there’s makeup. “Wear something light!” Yes. But I still need makeup because I’m seeing a man I like, not going to identify a suspicious mushroom. “Use waterproof!” Waterproof is for water coming FROM OUTSIDE. What about water coming FROM INSIDE MY FACE? Because my own face produces Evian from the inside. Because I don’t cry sweat. I sweat sweat. Specifically: forehead, temples, hairline, and that tiny evil zone where the face decides to produce a small regional climate: the upper lip.. Because nothing says romance like trying to flirt while your moustache area is developing its own river system. Now clothes. A dress, obviously. Cute. Breezy. Feminine. Park-coded. Fine. But shoes?SHOES? Sandals sound cute until you remember gravel exists. One tiny rock gets into your sandal and suddenly you’re not on a date, you’re doing medieval foot torture in public. Sneakers? Comfortable, yes but then I’m 42 centimeters tall next to him. He’ll look like he’s walking his emotional support keychain. So now I need shoes that are: cute, walkable, not sweaty, not dusty, not gravel-friendly, not too flat, not too “I’m trying,” not too “I gave up,” and somehow appropriate for a park. NASA has launched missions with fewer requirements. And my hair? My hair saw the humidity and chose jazz. Not soft curls. Not romantic curls. No. Freestyle rebellion. Like“Release the kraken.” So yes.A park walk sounds simple. But it’s basically the Olympics of pretending to be effortless while my body, face, shoes, curls and nervous system all try to unionize. Pray for me. Or send a stylist. Or a portable air conditioner shaped like dignity.
