Dual-Board Certified Adult Psychiatrist records a call with Optum Healthcare Optum Healthcare is a subsidiary of UnitedHealthcare He is contracted to provide services for suicidal veterans with Optum and they’re refusing to pay Optum Rep says “The law doesn’t matter” when the doctor reads the law saying any facility may be used to provide the care if it’s a suicidal case, the insurance company cannot deny payment for services Optum says they will only provide coverage if it’s in a specific building type He again reads the law that says any facility may be used in these cases. The doctor is also contracted with both the VA and with Optum so it should be covered for the patient anyway Optum says “The law doesn’t matter” and denies payment and coverage. I listened to this whole call and it is wild.
