As someone who worked at Reality Labs: the Metaverse had real legs but was obliterated by middle management completely out of touch with how young people actually use technology.
I built a V1 tool that game developers genuinely needed, and the moment it was done, it got shipped to a team in London (to die), and I was reassigned to a "higher-priority project" that zero developers asked for.
Multiply that by every team, and you'll understand why this never took off yet cost 80 billion.

I literally created an entire system for my Pilates studio via vibe coding. Booking site, back end portal for instructors, payroll system, rescheduling system and customer service workflow. Canceled acuity and squarespace and It only cost me $50 a month to host.

The lead Disney Channel star Lee Thompson Young passed away on August 19, 2013. He committed suicide.
Since then Disney Channel never aired “The Famous Jett Jackson” since or put it on Disney+ streaming. The show is never acknowledged despite being the first black lead on the channel and the first series to receive a movie.
The only time Disney Channel ever aired Jett Jackson was the movie once on June 9, 2016 during a marathon of every Disney Channel movie airing.
In the Hollywood scene behind the scenes there has been speculation and conversations about Lee Thompson Young drinking punch at Hollywood parties that were laced with drugs. Allegedly.
Which leads to the question why are we not having more conversations and celebrating the legacy of Lee Thompson Young?

Senior engineers have to review AI code. Cool. But how do junior and mid-levels become senior without years of writing code by hand?

Amazon is holding a mandatory meeting about AI breaking its systems. The official framing is "part of normal business." The briefing note describes a trend of incidents with "high blast radius" caused by "Gen-AI assisted changes" for which "best practices and safeguards are not yet fully established." Translation to human language: we gave AI to engineers and things keep breaking? The response for now? Junior and mid-level engineers can no longer push AI-assisted code without a senior signing off. AWS spent 13 hours recovering after its own AI coding tool, asked to make some changes, decided instead to delete and recreate the environment (the software equivalent of fixing a leaky tap by knocking down the wall). Amazon called that an "extremely limited event" (the affected tool served customers in mainland China).
