Some color on who is & isn't being paid in ICE & CBP via the One Big Beautiful Bill. Most of ICE & CBP are funded through 2029 via the OBBB and operations won't be impacted if they aren't funded through appropriations, for now. All frontline law enforcement is being paid. The ICE, Border Patrol, and CBP agents we see in the field are all getting paid via OBBB.  HOWEVER... their professional and civilian support staff are NOT being paid. These are people who work the computers, the public affairs offices, and other support staff who aren't on the front line making immigration arrests, but are supporting the agents who are. These civilian support staffers haven't been paid for almost half of the last six months when you factor in the prior shutdown last fall. They feel left behind - and feel they have no light at the end of the tunnel with this Senate bill leaving CBP & ICE unfunded through appropriations. They would have to hope GOP could take care of them in a future reconciliation bill, or that more funds could be moved around to pay them. These are some texts I've gotten from these staffers... CBP support employee:  "The senate bill paid TSA but thousands of CBP & ICE professional staff will not be paid.   The last paid work day for me was February 13.  Now senate on paid vacation until April 13 that is a guarantee for 2 months no pay.  Very likely we won’t be paid until May if Johnson lets the bill pass." ICE civilian employee: "I have a huge favor. When you guys report on the fact that ICE is funded through OB3 funds, can you please make it known that support staff (i.e. mission support, OPA, etc.) is NOT getting paid?" HSI civilian employee:   "We civilians are not getting paid, I'm working with my mom in the hospital and not getting paid. This is all so frustrating...sorry bill for venting!"

Nice bait-and-switch. The paper says urbanization may inflate part of the trend in raw U.S. summer station data. It does not say “no CO2 involved,” and it does not show warming is “just urbanization.” And “NOAA hides it” is nonsense. Homogenization exists to correct station biases, and NOAA-linked evaluations found it significantly reduces urban/rural differences and removes most of the recent urban signal in U.S. temperature data. UHI is real locally. Your conclusion is still spin. Global warming is not erased because you found one paper about raw U.S. summer thermometers.

A peer-reviewed study finds that most of the temperature rise observed over the past century in the US isn't from greenhouse gases, but instead from roads, buildings and parking lots. By comparing raw US temperature data from stations in areas with different population densities, the study found that 65% of the warming since 1895 is explained by the urban heat island effect, and another 8% by urban growth into once-rural areas. That's nearly three quarters of the warming. No CO2 involved. Crucially, NOAA's adjusted data hides this effect. 'Homogenization' smooths it out, a process the study's author, Dr Roy Spencer, calls "urban blending". It's not global warming. It's urbanization.

This week, I had the distinct pleasure of speaking at the Reagan Presidential Library on my book, Rage and the Republic. It is truly extraordinary in the breadth of its collection and its presentation of historical artifacts. Give yourself a few hours because you will want to explore every corner of this amazing place.jonathanturley.org/2026/03/14/a-v…

So, let me get this straight, @SecWar . You just sank an Iranian frigate, which was returning from an international naval exercise in India, near Sri Lanka. In other words, you attacked an unsuspecting "enemy ship" in international waters, thousands of nautical miles from the combat zone in the Middle East. You know, who conducted such cowardly attacks on unsuspecting naval targets before you? Nazi Germany.

Huge decision from 5th Cir -- can detain illegals without bond. Authority in statute since 1996 even if prior administrations never used it. Paywalled but free trials available. RP's appreciated -- Super Bowl Sunday not best to post new article. open.substack.com/pub/shipwrecke…

Billy Billy Billy Billy -- Justice O'Connor and SCOTUS disagree. U.S. v. Lopez-Mendoza -- 1984. "Applying the exclusionary rule in proceedings that are intended not to punish past transgressions, but to prevent their continuance or renewal, would require the courts to close their eyes to ongoing violations of the law." "The costs of applying the exclusionary rule in the context of civil deportation hearings are high. In particular, application of the exclusionary rule in cases such as Sandoval-Sanchez' would compel the courts to release from custody persons who would then immediately resume their commission of a crime through their continuing, unlawful presence in this country." ONGOING VIOLATIONS OF THE LAW... RESUME THEIR COMMISSION OF A CRIME THROUGH THEIR CONTINUING, UNLAWFUL PRESENCE IN THIS COUNTRY. Where do people come up with this cockamamie theory that an illegal alien present in the U.S. is not committing a crime?? Deportation is a civil remedy for criminal behavior. It does not make criminal behavior non-criminal.
Billy Binion@billybinion

This is flat wrong on the law. Unlawful presence is a civil infraction. Overstaying a visa—which he specifically mentions—is not criminal. Illegal entry is a misdemeanor, but being in the U.S. illegally is not, by itself, a crime. The deputy attorney general should know this.

One of the defining, unstated philosophies of Democrats in the modern era can be understood as follows: If a Democrat breaks the law in furtherance of a cause that Democrat personally believes to be just, such Democrat did not break the law. Pretty much every major news story of the past few weeks has been based in this belief--see, e.g., Don Lemon, Alex Pretti, Renee Good and every other Democrat domestic terrorist violating numerous federal, state and local criminal statutes.

@KurtSupeCPA If he was my grandson, I would advise him to find a different lender. 20% down seems irregular that income level. No info about his credit score. There are programs for first time homebuyers where I live. I like his Grandpa. His grandson is probably in his will.

74 years old. several million in the bank , nice pension, good social security benefit (delayed until 70). Still working part-time "for something to do." His grandson is 28. Electrician. Makes $78K . Kid worked through COVID. Never missed a day. Saved $45K for a down payment. Found a small house. $340K. Needs work but he can fix it himself. Bank says he needs $68K down. He's $23K short. Grandpa could write the check right now. Wouldn't even feel it. Instead: "He needs to save more. Show some discipline." The kid is eating ramen. Drives a 2009 Tacoma with 240K miles. Meanwhile Grandpa just dropped $35K on a boat he'll use twice this summer. "It's a teaching moment. Delayed gratification builds character." Six months later the kid is still saving. Still renting. Paying $1,650/month. Grandpa is frustrated his grandson hasn't bought a house yet. The kid did everything right. Worked hard. Saved. Stayed disciplined. I'm curious what you think. Is Grandpa teaching the right lesson here?

Closing out the day by noting the @POTUS focus on Greenland is similar for its strategic importance, and for the mockery it had received to the importance and incoming mockery that President Reagan received for SDI. Some presidents can see far beyond their terms and some can’t. Trump, like Reagan, understands deterrence and strategic defense. His huge win on Greenland is a win for the free world even if the EU has a twist in its shorts. This wouldn’t be the first time Europe failed to accurately assess threats in a timely fashion. While this has been going on, American military power has flowed into the countries and seas near #Iran. My @dcexaminer column argued today that President Trump should punish the rogue regime of ayatollahs and IRGC for their butchery of at least 15,000 of their people and imprisonment of an estimated 25,000 more. (The link is in the replies.) The world will not long remember this savagery unless @POTUS punishes it, and by doing so President Trump will erect a standard for the civilized world: You can’t machine gun down thousands of your people and expect the world’s strongest and most moral country to ignored your evil acts. We should not tolerate such wickedness when we don’t have to. 45-47 is impossible to predict and that’s a great advantage for a president dealing with a hostile world. But if too long a time separates wanton evil, the impact of a powerful rebuke will be lessened. So pray for the prisoners and for the president’s wisdom in planning his response.

Let me get this straight. The Patriots played the easiest schedule of any division champ. Then gets a severly injured Chargers team in the Wild Card. Then a Houston team, whose 2 best offensive players were injured and without 2 starting O-Linemen. Next week they get a Denver team, whose starting QB broke his foot on a freak play and will not play in the AFC Championship. This New England team isn’t really a Super Bowl team, it is a fortunate team that will luck its way into the Super Bowl
