For anyone who’s ever faced a personal challenge, it doesn’t get much better than the 'Six Minutes' speech in VISION QUEST. This scene wasn’t in the 1979 novel by Terry Davis. Elmo's monologue was written specifically for the film by screenwriter Darryl Ponicsan (THE LAST DETAIL, TAPS). Actor J. C. Quinn absolutely knocks it out of the park here. ANY high school basketball game in 2026 without a shot clock is ridiculous. It’s not even “real” basketball. I was playing HS basketball in NY state with a shot clock in 1997.

802 days ago I was honored to host this year’s NBA Rookie of the Year, Cooper Flagg vs VJ Edgecombe (who finished 3rd in voting). I believe it will go down as the most paramount high school sporting event EVER played on Long Island.
The game was played at Hofstra University. I remember meeting with the staff at Hofstra and trying to explain to them how historic this matchup is going to be. The staff “refused” to pull out all of their available seats because they didn’t understand why people would want to watch “high school kids!” Some have vision, some don’t.
