I’m working on a Washington Post article about millennials’ experiences as first-time homebuyers. Any fellow millennials want to talk about buying a house, or choosing not to buy a house yet? DM me.
@ElissaDeSouza Question: How are you working as a neighbor to ensure DC teens have safe places to gather on Halloween? Chasing clout on social media ain’t it. I know you, and you can do better than this. Let’s start by working in the community vs. demonizing it.
I woke up to a lot of comments saying things like, “I don’t see any crime, Elissa,” or “It’s just kids being kids it’s Halloween,” or that “parents should handle this.” But as someone who ACTUALLY lives here in Navy Yard, it’s not that simple.
The intent behind my post was not to claim an “active crime in progress.” It’s about safety awareness both for neighbors who live here and for others who might be heading into the area unaware of what’s been happening. It’s also about calling attention to a growing problem and encouraging more consistent measures, like continuing curfews and increased community support.
When large groups like this gather, they’re not just standing around playing board games. They’re damaging property, running into residents with bikes, screaming at people, climbing on cars and poles and causing general chaos.
This isn’t about kids hanging out. It’s about safety and respect for the community and for the people who live here, work here, and walk their dogs here every night. Those of us who call this home have every right to be concerned when what should be a fun evening turns into something unsafe and destructive.

There’s a new speakeasy on #HStreetNE. Head to the alley behind @Henceforth_DC. Look for this sign under a blue light & ring the doorbell for dealer’s choice cocktails. Head upstairs to a dimly lit lounge with a wrap-around bar. But please, no photos allowed once inside… 🍸🤫

Remember when @washingtonpost wrote a hack-job piece about H Street’s demise? Well, guess again! Absolutely feeling the vibes of @Henceforth_DC! This is going to be the third-place hangout at lunch, happy hour, or dinner. #HStreetDC 🍻

@culinarydiplo Also worth noting, WH hospitality staff are not rehired under each new admin. It’s a job unlike political appointees. This is to safeguard their work and includes cleaning and service staff too.
Appreciate you stirring the pot @TimEbner but why do you think the Bidens would appoint someone and not leave it to the next residents? Much better parlor games to be had speculating on Melania's pick vs Doug's bonappetit.com/story/cristeta…
