Dad life hack: I started taking my 4-year old daughter to the gym with me. Her routine is jumping jacks, box jumps, pushups, hanging on the rings, and passing the basketball to me, things she likes doing and are more like play than working out. (No weights until she’s a teen, fyi. Body weight only.) The results have been incredible. Yes, she’s gaining competency of each exercise and has quickly increased her confidence performing the exercises, but, Far far more importantly, we’ve casually already had some of the clearest heart-to-hearts while resting between sets. We’ve discussed courage, fear, pain, concentration, trust, attention, details, progress, delayed gratification, earned rewards, failed attempts, and how we enjoy spending time together. She was a confident little girl prior to starting with me at the gym, and now she is finding language from these gym visits to discuss her life experiences. It’s crazy how quickly this happened. Additionally, we’re spending hours of one-on-one time together that was previously apart. It’s been a lucky surprise for our family.

9 years ago to the day, I was SA’d by my boss (head fb s&c coach), as an intern. He told me I’d never make it in this field as a woman, if I didn’t sleep my way to the top. Today I am a top performer at my company AND just opened a gym for my community. Take that. Praise God.
