(in a happy coincidence, I have an indirect interest as Not Just the Tudors is one of two History Hit podcasts for which my daughter is audio editor - so take that as an extra recommendation to give it a listen!)

They discuss the new book (also just out) by Claire and co-author Zoe Venditozzi "How to Kill a Witch: A Guide for the Patriarchy" and their @witchesofscotl1 podcast.

@DBanksy Also, he has "been assured" that there can be no slippery slope. On a serious matter of conscience vote, an MP should make their own assessment on matters central to their vote, not abdicate responsibility with a vague appeal to unspecified authority.

I am surprised that MPs who surely know they can make, abolish or amend any law they choose, would say this about this Bill.

That’s all for day one of the hearing - back with the Scottish government’s submissions from 1030 tomorrow. I have been up since 3am so I may have a brief lie down on that Supreme carpet in the meantime

Treading the magnificent carpets of the Supreme Court this week for the latest round of litigation between ScotGov and For Women Scotland about the definition of a woman in law - potentially big GB-wide impacts, so here is a rather long explainer piece: bbc.com/news/articles/…

Our @IanMoir5 and @psweeney1982 came out early to say we wouldn’t be part of such a plan. Jury trials are crucial to justice being served. Having a go at not using them and hoping to avoid miscarriages of justice won’t do. If change is needed it must be measured and considered.

This is a humiliating u-turn for @ScotGovJustice. We are enormously proud of our efforts in defeating this dangerous proposal. The government resent us, hold us in contempt but never again should they underestimate us.

@NavyLookout @HMSPortland Sorry to be that guy, but the view is from the foremast. Due to some naming convention probably lost in the mists of time, the mainmast is the stubby little one at the forward end of the hangar.

@Scott_Wortley I use the kiwi browser with an extension (on android). Got it to get rid of the "for you" feed (which it does) but also seems to insulate me from worst of other normal post-Musk twitter problems. beebom.com/how-remove-for…

Twitter keeps insisting in showing me tweets by Elmo musk. I don't want to read his stuff. Tried muting. Blocking is now a waste of time.

Is there anything more exciting as a lawyer than when one of your cases appears on @Netflix? @RoddyQC and @ColinHulme, I feel we’ve made it when our case is mentioned in that hit show 24 Hours in Lidl. 🤣

📢SCHOLARSHIP KLAXON📢 @FacultyScot have opened their Scholarship applications for those commencing devilling in October 2025. These scholarships are essential for increasing access - I would not be devilling today were it not for the scheme 👇🏻 advocates.org.uk/news-and-respo…

@ernest_malley Qualifier used as a positive reframing of "subjective" and "unfalsifiable"? Not necessarily problematic but often seemingly used to insulate particular views from analysis or criticism!

Enjoying this salty - pun intended - excerpt from decision of Judge Anne Fairpo on why Walker’s attempts to get their crisps a VAT exemption by calling them Poppodoms does not make them so.

@ianssmart @ProfChalmers Maybe zones, like the LEZ, but with single occupancy vehicles banned? Can't say I'm aware anything like that was ever seriously proposed, though. I did live near a road in Bristol with a dedicated 2+ lane on it.

@ProfChalmers I’m not entirely how this compulsory car sharing was ever meant to work. If e.g. I was in Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court tomorrow, would I need to advertise on social media to see if anybody else from Kilsyth wanted to go to Kirkcaldy tomorrow?

Falkirk Council currently has six bins for collection (with a seventh little bin in the house). It is really easy to use and works well with roadside collections. I demand more bins.
