“The beneficiary of this war [in Iran] is Putin, filling up his coffers with oil dollars… and the reduction in support being given to Ukraine,” says former NATO deputy commander Richard Shirreff. Europe & Canada “must absolutely double down… increasing support for Ukraine.”

The war in the Middle East continues and chaos is spreading. Oil prices are going up. Washington may lift sanctions on Russian oil. Who is the real winner here?

Russia is providing Iran with satellite intelligence on U.S. military targets and American service members — helping Tehran strike Americans in the Middle East. At the same time, President Zelensky and Ukraine are offering their battle-tested expertise to help the U.S. and its allies defend against Iranian drones. It’s not complicated. Russia is helping Iran target and kill American service men and women. Ukraine is offering to help defend Americans risking their lives. Somebody needs to walk into the Oval Office and tell the President what he needs to hear — the difference between friends and foes. When your back is against the wall and the chips are down, you find out who shows up to help and who stabs you in the back. reuters.com/business/aeros… washingtonpost.com/national-secur…

BREAKING: US Treasury eases oil sanctions on the Kremlin, allowing Indian refineries to buy the millions of barrels of Russian crude on floating storage until early April (the new rules cover all the oil already loaded in a tanker by March 5, 2026). Massive win for Putin.

The oil market is already tapping the SPR. No, no that SPR. I mean the Russian (and some Iranian) floating barrels that, effectively, are acting as the market's first line of defence. If anything, their impact is faster than the SPR, because they are already in tankers.

@robert_lyman @TimPBouverie Because he was allowed to and enabled. Blind eyes were turned. (The allies knew mass shootings were taking place). Russia was not nuclear armed until four years after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. So ‘he could’ because he was allowed. My question is ‘why’?

Really excited to share the paperback design for ‘Allies at War’: an account of how Churchill and Roosevelt, despite myriad disagreements, made the world a safer place by combatting unprovoked aggression and creating a global system based on international law.
