@DabsAndDPS I struggle to not wish to do some things over, but given I can’t, it’s just pain. I’d rather live and be me than dwell too much on a saddening wish.

Your Emotional Healing Coach

If you’re someone who overthinks, you’ll struggle to go no contact & heal the most bc you don’t just remember, you relive & philosophise your pain. Grief for the emotionally intelligent is layered.

It's almost cute seeing young Earth creationism again. It's a welcome change from dinosaur denialism, hurricane machines, and anti-vaxxers.

@TheOldFaith @DrScotMSullivan I agree that we should scrutinize our biases when we evaluate. It is wise to proportion our confidence to the evidence and doubt what lacks reasonable evidence. Sagan wrote what I find to be helpful & insightful ways to scrutinize our own truth seeking: youtu.be/yUgdrno-2xY?si…

@TimPieper7 @DrScotMSullivan 'and the gospels are based on human hearsay.' Well for obvious reasons this is where you and I part company. I commend not being credulous but, as Ricoeur wisely tells us, if we're going to adopt the hermeneutic of suspicion we should subject that hermeneutic to the same scrutiny

Dr. Scott M. Sullivan
Dr. Scott M. Sullivan@DrScotMSullivan·
"Can we imagine-logically, I mean, not merely intuitively-that someone still in torment after a trillion ages, or then a trillion trillion, or then a trillion vigintillion, is in any meaningful sense the same agent who contracted some measurable quantity of personal guilt in that tiny, ever more vanishingly insubstantial gleam of an instant that constituted his or her terrestrial life? And can we do this even while realizing that, at that point, his or her sufferings have in a sense only just begun, and in fact will always have only just begun? What extraordinary violence we must do both to our reason and to our moral intelligence (not to mention simple good taste) to make this horrid notion seem palatable to ourselves, and all because we have somehow, foolishly, allowed ourselves to be convinced that this is what we must believe." -David Bentley Hart,

@TheOldFaith @DrScotMSullivan I commend truth seeking. Here’s my hang up; humans have a tendency to believe a lot of stuff for bad reasons, and the gospels are based on human hearsay. Even modern humans can believe easily fact checked falsehoods, and we know false religions are the rule, not the exception.

@TimPieper7 @DrScotMSullivan It's possible that, in good faith, and in good conscience you hold to the view that God isn't real. But it is incumbent upon us all to continue seeking the fulness of the truth. What I've said to you I'd temper with this, "to those whom much has been given, much will be asked."

@TheOldFaith @DrScotMSullivan Surely a god can see the difference between rejection and disbelief. Rejecting an offer implies the choice is made between accepting it and rejecting it. If I don’t have reason to think the offer or its consequences are real, how am I supposed to even consider accepting it?

@TimPieper7 @DrScotMSullivan "You seem to be proposing hell is filled with people that won’t accept an offer to get out of infinite torture." That's right. They'd rather be in Hell than be with God. You ARE rejecting the offer by denying its reality. So I'd entrust you to the loving intercession of Our Lady.

Regardless, the way you describe god makes him sound as fragile as a human infant. Infinite torture for offending him? Surely we can imagine a bigger god than that.

What’s the point of the wrath? To show he’s been offended? We teach toddlers to control their tantrums. We expect emotional maturity and control from adults. How much more maturity and control should we expect from an omniscient eternal father?

@TheOldFaith @DrScotMSullivan That’s one story to try to make sense of hell. You seem to be proposing hell is filled with people that won’t accept an offer to get out of infinite torture. What about people like me who aren’t rejecting the offer but simply don’t think the offer is real?

@DrScotMSullivan But it's not all that, is it. The damned soul fixed itself into enmity with God whereby it hates God in a negative feedback loop of hate - blaming Him for the state they are in. Thus, the only person who could have redeemed them is forever the motive of their rejection of Him.

@thejerryproctor @paulogia0 Agreed. Just wanted to beat back any allegations that atheists are borrowing some philosophy or have no alternative sensible basis for values that are somehow inherent to Christianity. By your explanation, such values are just part of a process that goes far before Christianity.

Exactly what moral principle is an atheist allegedly borrowing from Christianity that doesn’t ultimately pre-date Judaism in the form of general empathy?

@dan_herbison @paulogia0 @noah_jo99 Didn’t mention standards, I’m correcting your claim that empathy doesn’t spread your genes. Empathy is demonstrably an amazing teamwork motivator for our species. Ape. Together. Strong. The net survival of the group is benefited from empathy. Fringe cases don’t change that.
