I walked into work this morning and my coworker asked how I was doing. I told him I’ve got cramps and I’m not feeling great. This grown man, like fully in his 40s goes, “Oh, you’re on your period? That’s gross.”
I just stared at him and said, “It’s honestly embarrassing that you have a daughter. Imagine not even liking women and still raising one.”
Anyway… just added another name to my workplace enemy list, it’s fine

What I find interesting about the Newsoms is that they both relentlessly promote liberal/left ideologies that are corrosive to family formation and undermine traditional values. However, at the same time, they've been in a heterosexual marriage for 20+ years and have 4 children together. By those measures, they are more "trad" in terms of their own lifestyle than most Americans are, even a lot of conservatives aren't married with 4 kids. So what that tells me is the Newsoms KNOW that the traditional family model is the best; that's why they chose it when they both could've chosen anything else. But as elites they still promote insidious ideologies that end up harming the ordinary people who listen to them. It's a perfect illustration of "luxury beliefs."

Donald Trump was able to use evangelicals and to get them to betray every value they had once claimed to stand for, because as Mark Noll once observed: "the scandal of the evangelical mind is that there is not much of an evangelical mind."
Evangelicalism had time to change course, to develop a more robust and serious intellectual tradition, but instead it turned further to one-dimensional hermeneutics as made concrete by the Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy, young-earth creationism, nationalism, and rapture eschatology.
One of the best examples of this is the pro-life movement. What should have been fleshed out as a broader care for all life, including care for the poor, respect for the elderly and those with disabilities, and environmentalism (as is done in Catholicism and JP2's Theology of the Body), became a narrow political wedge issue that lacked any actual theological discourse or philosophical structure.

as someone who has spent 34 years of her life going to church, and almost 30 of those years spent in conservative churches, I have never once heard a pastor tell young men to "forgive" promiscuous women, and I was being urged to marry as long as I can remember.

I knew a ton of women like this. the more supportive, low maintenance, and "pure" they were, the higher likelihood that their husband was a huge asshole who either left them or we all hoped he would.
