Iran is attacking British territory. Starmer wants to hand that territory to a country that backs Iran in the current conflict. telegraph.co.uk/world-news/202…

Starmer told the Commons that Mandelson "lied to me". Turns out not only did he not speak to him, he stopped others looking into him

It failed to pass. Thank God for that!!! Now let’s make our NHS & Palliative Care, world class and where every human being is valued as a human being, and not treated as a burden to be put down because they are disabled or elder citizens or lonely or poor.

Just read my message. Obviously meant "course". Not sure if this was a mistype/autocorrect or a ridiculous error. I hope it was the former!

Labour was elected in July 2024 with an overriding promise to accelerate economic growth. We now now have its record for its first full calendar year, 2025: Q1: 0.7% Q2: 0.2% Q3: 0.1% Q4: 0.1% So, far from stimulating the economy, the dead hand of Starmer-Reeves has knocked the stuffing out of it. They took a good start to the year and squandered it with reckless tax, spend and borrow (none of which was in their manifesto). Our giant services sector — 2nd biggest in the world — is stagnating. Construction is in its worst state for over 4 years, with output down 2% in Q4 (which is why Labour’s promise of 1.5m new houses by 2029 is already broken). As for GDP per capita, which was very popular among X tweeters under the Tories but not so much now (I wonder why), it fell for the second quarter in a row — so we’re effectively in a GDP/capita recession.

@Doggo26557 @ScholasticsFan "It would be better for the entire world to burn than for any one of us to offend the Lord with even the slightest venial sin." This doesn't leave a whole lot of room for forgiveness.

@TimSwinyard @ScholasticsFan Your ignorance is rather apparent. Newman is saying that a single affront to God through a venial sin is worse than anything else that could be brought about. It is not saying that venial sins cannot be forgiven. And confession is primarily for mortal sins anyways

@ScholasticsFan Then why have confession if your sins damn you with no hope of redemption?

@TimSwinyard I can actually show you the contrary. And Newman here is as well read on the churches positions as almost anyone.

@ScholasticsFan Newman's statement doesn't accord with wider views given by the Catholic Church. I'm not a Catholic, but I don't imagine you'd find his view on venial sin echoed by the Vatican where sin has often been in the past less venial (I try and make this diplomatic to be respectful)

The scandal with no Royal Navy ships near Cyprus isn't that they usually wouldn't be there. It's not that it takes a 2 weeks for them to arrive. It's that for weeks America has been moving ships near Iran and we didn't take precautions. We were unprepared for the inevitable.

Nigel Farage says he'll scrap targets to get more people speaking Welsh if Reform win the elections there, so 'if they come here they should learn the language' doesn't apply everywhere then

@ThomasEvansAdur @haveigotnews @luffdee Exactly. My mum is from Anglesey where Welsh was the main language and so she could only speak Welsh until she was 8, but that is not true for even Cardiff, for instance.
