@AmbJapanUK Sir, you honour your nation through your remarkable support to ours. I thank you!

@CliveWardauthor Love the WW2 story of Brit soldiers opening a tin of "strawberry jam" from a factory in the USSR. Half way through they found a wrist watch - with the strap still done up!🤢

CHEESE POSSESSED
Is it really possessed? I heard a story about two old soldiers who were standing in a trench in Soltau, Germany, when they noticed that the tin of compo cheese was fifteen years out of date, but they were so hungry they decided to eat it anyway. When they opened it, it looked palatable, but then suddenly it tried to climb out on its own, like THE BLOB. Later, it was humanely destroyed. The two soldiers were told never to repeat the experience they’d had and were forced to sign an MOD CCF compo confidentiality form. However, later, after a few bottles of Herforders, the story was out.
I have still got a tin of cheese possessed in my shed and I am waiting for its 100th birthday before it gets opened. I loved the stuff. There is a market for aged cheese. I could be sitting on a gold mine. There was only one tin unfortunately. But some veterans will tell you it is useful for everything apart from consumption.
Alternative Uses
Fishing bait. The fish love the stuff, especially Chubb, they’ve been known to throw themselves onto the riverbank as soon as the tin is opened.
Pest control. The mice throw themselves on the traps.
Emergency candle. Put a wick through it, light it and it will burn for days.
Boot repair. Good for fixing your boot soles.
Leak Prevention. Good for fixing radiator leaks.
Eraser. Good for removing stubborn permanent marker ink from maps.
In the seventies, the jungle natives of Belize would risk their lives by running along the road, trying to catch discarded cans of compo cheese and other compo delights, traveling at 15 mph from the back of a departing 4 tonner full of troops leaving the jungle. Sadly, they were wiped out not long after that. Must have been something they ate.
BULLIES AND BULLSHIT Warning! If easily offended, I really do advise you not to read this book.

Eating lots of fabulous food. This is a blueberry and white chocolate mouse egg with caramelised Lemon gel on a Kataifi nest.
And it was bloody marvellous.

@TomSharpe134 Three things I heard about this incident:
1. The Seadart quarters watchkeeper would have lost his legs if he didn't have his feet on the control panel.
2. One of the missiles flipped 180° despite lack of space.
3. CO threw his team under the bus at his court marshal.

This part of the dit gets studied a few times during one's time in the RN.
In sum, if you're going to RV with a merchant vessel, take steps to not actually RV with the merchant vessel...

@Richard75595792 @Noble67Allan I think I saw somewhere that MOD did eventually admit that they really didn't work!

Was spinning dits with an old shipmate of mine and we reminisced about watchkeeping in the engine room out on the plates..No MCR/ECRs…
Cue photo of me,on the plates, being caught by surprise on camera..😂😂

@Richard75595792 @Noble67Allan That's not the point! MOD provided ear protection, so everything's rosey!
It always concerned me with the magloop duffs that they picked up the rotating buzz from the RADAR!

Good pints from David here.
And this ‘very small crew’ option gaining traction , at least in the conversations I’m having. Historically it’s not something the Navy is good at so needs to be added to the ‘cultural reboot’ list, but makes sense for the sloops, I think.
David Blagden@blagden_david
Maybe. But if you build a USV that can do everything a crewed sloop might do, couldn’t it work even better with ~20 people onboard who could fix defects, make strategically prudent choices even if denied comms, and give foes pause before running it down with a ‘merchant’ ship?
English

@SwaledaleSailor @TomSharpe134 Do you mean they're stuck alongside, as there aren't enough of them to take the ship safely to sea or sufficient support to old platforms/timely delivery of new platforms?!🧐
English

@history99917180 Good luck with that! Never mess with your partner's tea!!

Gareth’s husband tips #22
I ordered the wrong teabags. Sam likes Yorkshire Gold. Bugger.
Never fear, transfer the normal Yorkshire teabags into the Yorkshire Gold teabags box. Then discard the normal teabag box. The boss will never know. Genius.
