One runway has been reopened after a United Express/CommuteAir Embraer ERJ-145XR went off the end of the runway at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport Wednesday night, according to airport officials.
United Flight 4339 was arriving from Dulles International Airport shortly before 10 p.m when the incident occurred.
The jet ended up on the Engineered Materials Arresting System (EMAS), which is a bed of engineered materials designed to slow an aircraft in the event of an overrun. The EMAS was installed at the airport in 2024; this is the first time it was used.
The FAA was notified and will investigate why the plane went off the runway.
@ESPNF1 Carbon fiber hat moment but I could easily see that Max and his team had some part in this. I would go so far as to say this means max will not be a Mercedes F1 driver next season.
People that stand up on airplanes the second we get to the gate were dropped as babies (unless you got a connection in @CLTAirport , that’s understand and advised) good day
