The story of Temple’s football history wouldn’t be complete without Dick Stafford. Belton’s either. The @TDTSports Sunday column details the legacy of Stafford, who died Monday at age 88.

Wrote an essay on him in a sophomore English class at Sam Houston State. The prof went on and on about for weeks. A little embarrassing, but it gave me confidence. Great player. Not Roger, but great all the same.

Long-time Temple & Belton football coach Dick Stafford has died. A Temple native and star Wildcat player in the 1950's, Stafford was Belton HFC from 1982-87. He led the Tigers to a 42-24 record. He coached with high school friend Bob McQueen at Temple for 10 years.#txhsfb

Lake Belton has hired former Belton High coach Jason Fossett as its new head basketball coach. Fossett returns to BISD after spending 2 years leading Harker Heights. Fossett replaces Zane Johnston who took the same position at Academy.

Temple/Lake Belton pitching great Maddison Ruiz has posted a 16-6 record for the Rambelles thus far in her freshman season.

Milford (pop. 801), in the southern tip of Ellis County, is home to the Bulldogs. From 1902-1929 it was also home to the Texas Presbyterian College for women. The school closed due to lagging enrollment perhaps as a result of discriminating against half of the population.
