The international community says Hamas must disarm, but Hamas says they won’t. So who’s going to disarm them? They say Hezbollah must disarm, but who’s going to make them? The fact is that global condemnation of Hamas and Hezbollah without meaningful action leaves Israel alone to deal with them. That’s fine; I expect Israel sees it as their lot in life. But to insist that Hamas and Hezbollah should be disarmed, do nothing about it, and then complain when Israel tries to do what you’ve called for seems incoherent to me. Especially when it’s Israel that’s mainly picking up the consequences of those wishes not leading to action.

The accompanying photo shows Prisoner 26406 — Aron Löwi, a 62-year-old Jewish merchant from Poland. This is his intake photo at Auschwitz. He survived only five days. You know he was Jewish from the yellow star on his shirt. Efforts to dilute or universalize the Holocaust — framing it as generic “man’s inhumanity to man” — obscure its core truth. The Holocaust was specifically about the systematic attempt to exterminate the Jews. The machinery of industrial genocide was built for that purpose. Other groups suffered terribly under the Nazis: Roma (Gypsies) were targeted for genocide; disabled people, including children, were murdered in gas vans and euthanasia programs; homosexuals and political dissidents were sent to camps. Yet these atrocities piggybacked on the infrastructure created for the Final Solution against Jews. Without the drive to eradicate Jews, there would have been no death camps, no gas chambers scaled for mass murder, and no model for extending that killing to others. The Nazis built it for Jews first; others were swept in as an afterthought — “as long as the machinery exists.” This was no isolated event. It represented the crescendo of roughly 1,800 years of persecution, humiliation, and violence against Jews in Christian Europe, and 1,300 years under Islamic rule. Nazi ideology found willing echoes in parts of the Arab world, where Palestinian Arab leadership actively collaborated in spreading antisemitic propaganda during the war, helping embed its spirit in broader Islamic contexts — a spirit that persists in some quarters today. The unique character of Jew-hatred lies in its framing as a moral imperative: a narrative that portrays Jews as the root of all problems, so that eliminating them promises utopian redemption. This is why the hatred escalates so destructively and why it rarely stops with Jews. Those animated by such totalizing libels often expand their gaze to other “impurities” or obstacles. That is why the Holocaust must not be universalized into vagueness. It is about the Jews It is about how centuries of accumulated hate can erupt into industrialized extermination, and about the warning it carries: this specific hatred, once empowered, endangers everyone.
