A 19-year-old Iranian girl named Saghar Gholami is at an immediate risk of public execution by the Islamic regime in Iran. Saghar has been sentenced to capital punishment following her arrest during the January 2026 nationwide protests in Iran. Her name, Saghar, means "wine cup" or "goblet" in Persian and is associated with poetry and celebration. She was reportedly violently detained by security forces in early February. But since her arrest, she had no access to legal representation or contact with her family, nor was anyone informed about the exact nature of the legal charges against her. It seems it doesn’t matter that the Greens didn’t pass the ‘Zionism is racism’ motion yet. It’s become a key plank in their campaigning for the local elections. I was speaking to a friend in Islington today who said she was still angry from an encounter with a Green activist who came to her door and said, ‘I want to talk you about Zionism.’ My friend told her: ‘I am a proud Zionist.’ To which the activist turned on her heel. Half an hour later, a FB acquaintance sent me a message about a similar experience. This is what he wrote: Hi Nicole! This morning I spoke with 2 Green Party activists putting pamplets in doors. I expressed my distaste for the current Greens and why. The fellow tried to Jewsplain to me about 'Zionsm' being not Jewish. Then he asked my thoughts on Gaza, stated that "Zionism" is in charge of the situation in Gaza. I asked if he had ever heard of October 7. He said, "I believe 7 October is a hoax." This is Amirhossein Hatami. The Islamic regime intends to execute him tomorrow. He was transferred from the general ward to solitary confinement - awaiting execution. He is only 18.

If I were that MP, I'd invite this shouty activist to meet one on one so I could explain to her why her posturing is based on ignorance and prejudice and stand by my vote. No one should be intimidated by these people. Least of all our elected representatives.

There is not a single MP in this country that I would ever wish harm on. I may disagree with them or find their politics abhorrent, but intimidation has no place in a democracy. What we are now seeing from this @TheGreenParty candidate turning up at an MP’s office in an intimidating manner towards her and her staff, is completely unacceptable. We have already seen where this road leads with the murders of Jo Cox and David Amess, two MPs with different politics but the same tragic outcome, and it should have been a line that is never crossed again. This behaviour fuels that same dangerous environment and it must stop, and the Green Party should act immediately and stand this individual down.
