Another defection… After eight incredible years at The Times, including four years having the time of my life on Times Radio, I’m slightly stunned to be joining the amazing team at BBC Radio 5Live to launch a brand new daily politics show in the autumn. It’s exactly 20 years since this Somerset boy arrived in London with his three A levels, 100 words per minute shorthand, vast collection of Elton John records and a dream. But I could never have dreamt that one day I’d make it to the actual BBC, and in a huge general election year too.

It’s for occasional bits like — from today’s column by Rose Wild ⁦@TimesArchive⁩ — that I continue to buy the Times.

D'you know how many times I've been in a big shiny car? Twice in 60 years. And I'd just like to do it once without a wet hanky in my hand. Ena Sharples is always great but this is a classic

Coronation Street - written by Jack Rosenthal (2nd September 1964). Stan - reveling in his new job as a chauffeur - takes his friends for a spin (unfortunately he's sacked the same day after the car is returned in a less than pristine condition).

Delighted to be appointed chief reporter of The Times, truly a dream job. My first piece looks at a Chinese spy who has been using fake LinkedIn profiles to target Brits and steal their secrets, said to be on an industrial scale thetimes.co.uk/article/1ba8f1…

Edgware development 60 years ago. Equitable House later became Premier House and has recently been converted to housing rather than offices. From The Times archive 1961 and 1962

Great to see Maude Davies, manager of the picture library, being recognised via today's @TimesArchive article. Her indexing system is still being used today - lovely to see wooden rows of the card catalog! thetimes.co.uk/article/take-a…
