EXC: UK military chiefs have been asked to find £3.5bn in "efficiencies" and other savings this financial year, even as Sir Keir Starmer says he is readying his armed forces for war, sources have signalled to Sky News. As we revealed on the podcast this morning, heads of the army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and other top brass were due to meet early this week to discuss the funding pressures. There's a £28 billion funding gap in the MOD budget over 4 years. #liveblog-body" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">news.sky.com/story/politics… First heard on Politics at Sam and Anne's. Are resident doctors still underpaid? The BMA’s case for ongoing industrial action is undermined by how the union uses data. 1/6

@RachelReevesMP ...then the joint second fastest in 2024, the fastest in both 2025 and 2026, and still third in 2027,,, (I'm guessing you'll say the IMF must be assuming a Labour government 😉)

@MinnOrchia @HelenWebberley Nobody is entitled to be addressed by their preferred pronouns! You can't unwoman anyone. Either you're a woman and always will be, or you're not, and never can be.

@HelenWebberley It's horrific. The argument seems to be that if someone is a sufficiently bad person, they aren't entitled to be addressed by their preferred pronouns. But what counts? What crimes are bad enough to get a trans woman "unwomaned"? Where is this written down?

How ever can a nurse employed by the NHS, regulated by the NMC, consider it appropriate to decide whether or not she will use the pronouns a patient has clearly expressed they wish to be addressed by?

At Westminster Magistrates' Court. None of the cases from Charing Cross Police Station have appeared. No reason was given. "It's almost the default position," says the judge. Some good news: one defendant has appeared for their case. But they don't speak English and the Farsi interpreter hasn’t turned up so it won't go ahead. The judge moves down the list to the 15th case that was meant to happen today, but still no one is ready. Almost the entire morning has been wasted. Court adjourned.

No. If it helps- when a person of colour suggests they feel another person is racially biased against them- the approach isn't to be indignant and gaslight them for asking for an apology- but to reflect why that has been said. Does that stop me from responding to a comment against you which threatens your life? No. Because I don't wish that on anyone. Hope that helps. And avoid engagement kindly in the future.

So on this morning’s podcast I argue that the military chiefs simply aren’t winning the argument for more money with the cabinet and MPs. It’s not landing. In other news, Lord Robertson has personally decided tonight’s bombshell speech attacking the lack of defence spending cannot be filmed. How do you win an argument when you won’t let people see it being made?

As I say often, the role of stupidity in politics is underestimated. Polanski clearly hasn't got a clue about Hungary. He assumes that if Orban is a 'baddy' then whoever opposes him must be, in his eyes, a 'goody'. But in many ways Magyar is further to the right than Orban, certainly on immigration. And he's very pro-Israel. Magyar is as far from Polanski as imaginable. If he was running here Polanski would drone on about him being a 'fascist'. Truly, an idiot.

Orban’s defeat shows that when we stand together against the politics of hate and division, hope wins and the far right friends of Farage can be defeated.

🚨EXCLUSIVE🚨 The associations representing all of Britain’s special forces communities are writing to MP’s warning Labour’s Troubles Bill is pushing some Northern Ireland veterans to the brink of suicide. One former special forces soldier, who was diagnosed with PTSD, tried to kill himself because of the persecution he faced over an inquest hearing. Senior military personnel have warned the current legislation does not have adequate protections to prevent veterans from being hounded through the courts over cases like inquests that are trudging up traumatic old details without providing any new evidence. They are buying your votes. This isn’t about giving struggling families help. This is about ‘making mornings easier for all families’. Do we really want the state doing everything for us? What about personal responsibility? How infantilising.
