Okay, this is low key a bit crazy. Me, 8 months ago: Launched a mobile app. Got 3 lifetime downloads, lmaaao Me, now: Been doing marketing from day zero, and my app just surpassed 500 downloads in less than 48 hours. I'm so happy, right now🥲

Day 17 of 30: Building and scaling a mobile app to $500 MRR Yesterday, I received a ton of messages on TikTok asking me to make the app available for free. To boost virality, I’ve decided to switch to a freemium model, with some premium features locked behind a paywall. Famous last words 🫡

That's what I thought as well. Just switched to a freemium model. Let's see how it goes 🫡 Though, I feel like my app currently doesn't have enough features to justify switching from a free account to a paid one. But I guess that's just a sign that I have to keep shipping features.

To the devs building iOS apps. What has your experience been with a freemium model vs a free trial + subscription? I feel like my app has the potential for viral growth on TikTok, but I'm a bit concerned that having a hard paywall could kill that.

Yeah, I had the same feeling, that's why I was kind of curious about it. Honestly, I don't feel like my app did too bad, as it got 24 free trials in the first 48 hours. But, I feel like that was just luck. It's obviously very hard to charging right away if you literally got 0 reviews. Thus, just switched to a freemium model🙃

@TimoHuennebeck yeah, i killed one of my apps with a hard paywall. if users don’t cost much (no pricey apis etc), i’d keep it free till you get decent users, then slowly test soft paywalls with new installs. if a free app can’t get users, a paid one won’t either

@itsrickyszn But is this something I could really A/B test? I know it works with prices, but with freemium vs. free trials? Otherwise, people might be thinking as to why their friend had to get a free trial while they themselves can use the app for free 🙃

Day 16 of 30: Building and scaling a mobile app to $500 MRR I feel so grateful right now 😭 For the past 2 years, I’ve never managed to get more than a handful of people to sign up. My app went live about an hour ago, and already I’ve got 50 sign-ups and 3 free trials 😭

Right now, mainly because it allows people to earn gemstones based on the number of days they've stayed porn-free. But I got some AI features coming in the next couple of days that will predict the days and times when the user is most likely to relapse, to helpl them stay one step ahead.

Yeah, that makes sense. Though, I got no idea how ASO works, so I better not be crashing after those 5 days 😂 Currently, have been mainly focusing on TikTok. Mainly sharing the process of building the app. Though, I am currently setting up another TikTok account for the app itself as well as Instagram.
