@sw_holocron @elijahwood Corporate cowardice has always been a problem with populist entertainment yes, but I'm pointin my finger at toxic fandom in response to The Last Jedi as to why this film was so milquetoast, unambitious and reviled that even Elijah Wood felt okay punching down on it.

Happy birthday to Elijah Wood (@elijahwood)! Known for his role as Frodo in Lord of the Rings, Wood also voiced Jace Rucklin in Star Wars Resistance and is responsible for the iconic tweet below about the under-appreciated The Rise of Skywalker.

THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU actor Lateef Crowder on sharing the role of Din Djarin with Pedro Pascal and Brendan Wayne. “I definitely have to communicate with them. Brendan [Wayne] is in the suit most of the time, so I watch what he’s doing in the scene, especially if my scene is coming up. It all has to blend and match so it feels seamless, where you don’t know if it’s me, Brendan, or Pedro [Pascal].” (Source: @Castellani2014, video credit: youtu.be/5W0yF4h0r_c?si…)

@Variety Anyone else totally stuck on "time and memorial?" Ugh. It's "time immemorial." It means since before time began or for so long no one remembers anything differently. Anyway yeah she's also the worst.

Sony Pictures execs are caught bashing Blake Lively in Justin Baldoni's unsealed court docs, with CEO Tom Rothman saying: "She did bring it all on herself by refusing to listen to advice… and by selling her products." “She did it to herself,” Sandford Panitch, president of the Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, wrote about Lively in August 2024 amid reports that Lively had banned Baldoni from the "It Ends With Us" red carpet. “If she just let him come to the premiere, or didn’t make all the cast unfollow him or kick him off the movie, and did what everyone ever has done in show business for time and memorial which is protect ‘the show’ then none of the sleuthing would have happened." A herd of African elephants roamed the vast, sun-baked plains of Tsavo, Kenya, in 1950s; a time when land still felt overwhelmingly wild and uninterrupted. These giants moved in a slow, deliberate rhythm, their massive silhouettes rising like ancient monuments against the shimmering heat. Tsavo was one of the few places where elephants thrived in large numbers, protected by sheer remoteness and the resilience of the ecosystem that sustained them. Calves walked close to their mothers, learning the quiet language of survival through touch, rumbling calls, and the unspoken discipline of the herd. In this era, the elephants’ world was both beautiful and harsh. They traveled long distances in search of water, following paths carved by generations before them. The red dust of Tsavo stained their skin, creating a striking contrast with the deep greens of scattered acacia trees. Though unaware, these elephants lived at the precipice of change, just before modern pressures—poaching, shrinking habitats, and human expansion—began reshaping their destiny. Photographs from 1950s capture more than a moment in time; they preserve the memory of a wilder Africa, where elephants moved as they always had, guided by ancient instincts across a land that seemed endless. © History Pictures #archaeohistories

@LegalPrimes @DiscussingFilm Not everyone can afford to, but as someone who was lucky enough to go, I still learned a ton doing background. also, doing it for 12 months kind of motivates you to stop doing it and find a different path in (or out) as the case may be.

Simu Liu explains that replacing background actors with AI deprives people of the ability to pick up skills to become an actor. “I think if I was able to learn from that experience [as a background actor], then how many other people are doing the same? In depriving the world of background actors, you’re also depriving people the opportunity to kind of pick up these skills… Film is such an artist’s medium. Of all the uses of AI that have come forth, replacing art is just, I feel like, the last thing that anybody wants to do with AI. I feel like art is art because it’s human. It comes down to even the way that extras move…it all plays into the frame, and it’s all meaningful to the story” (Source: Deadline)

Ive dined with Pulitzer and EGOT winners, baked with a McArthur genius, hung out with a sitting President at the WH. All were fun, chill times. I think if I ever saw Martin Short IRL i might openly weep & embrace him. How NE1 can miss the pure joy that motivates him is baffling.

@HudsonKate your Martin Short article was healing, thank you so much. That first article is still in my head rent free, which is distressing. But thank you. Brava.

@ArsenioHall Came back on the platform to tell you I love you. And that there would be a black Threads if you started it. It's a lot to ask a person, but the person is you and you've started bigger things than that. Keep on, good sir. There's a dearth of innovators and the water is wide.

@NetflixGeeked Looks fine, but maybe you should consider telling the costume and props department to give weathering a little bit more time or you'll risk everything looking fake and halloween-costume-y

@davidscottjaffe Not trolling- you obv know how to make a game that is a commercial success. But it seems to me your real question isn't why does Nintendo get so much grace, it's why don't you. Critical bias and 2x standards is a conversation I think more people should be having. IMO

I don't give a fuck about amazing production value+visuals. A great game is a great game. Just starting and so far, so good. But given how much everyone goes ape shit over visuals, it's staggering how this game can look like this and not get at least a little dinged by reviews.
