Ken Levine, le créateur de BioShock, vient de dire tout haut ce que beaucoup pensent tout bas. « Regardez la Switch 2 et les nouvelles machines qui arrivent. Ce ne sont pas des bonds technologiques énormes… et ce n’était pas le but. On commence enfin à admettre qu’on a atteint un point de saturation sur les graphismes. » Il explique que le photoréalisme coûte très cher, vieillit mal, et que BioShock reste encore magnifique aujourd’hui justement parce qu’il misait sur un style artistique fort plutôt que sur le réalisme à tout prix. Le message est limpide : on n’a plus besoin de toujours chercher plus de puissance brute. Un bon directeur artistique et une direction visuelle assumée valent souvent mieux que des millions de polygones en plus. Enfin un grand nom de l’industrie qui ose le dire ! Et vous, vous préférez quoi ?
