@stuholden Based on English language rules if the second letter after a vowel is a vowel the first one should be pronounced as it sounds. Isn’t it the case? Therefore it is pronounced I-ran. So the problem is not westerns pronouncing it wrong but someone spelled it incorrectly.

@dasscherick There’s a t-shirt I like that says: “Love thy neighbor” includes: thy Democrat neighbor, thy Republican neighbor, thy immigrant neighbor … and it gives a whole list. It just fleshes out things people may not have thought of before.
