Mamdani to veto protest buffer zone bill that would criminalize protest outside schools, which plainly violates Constitutional rights. Opts not to veto protest bill for houses of worship, which was defanged into being totally redundant to existing law.

I’ve seen the dude state that it’s okay to steal from the rich (and from museums!), and that killing certain people in the system is understandable. I used to think @RoKhanna was legit. His defense of this man is an embarrassment.

We are the party of redemption, believing you deserve a second chance if you made a mistake as a young person or deserve to make a life if you came here undocumented but work hard and play by the rules.
Yet, when it comes to political disagreements, we have taken a very different attitude. If someone held political viewpoints we disagree with or said sensational or hurtful things, we feel vindication and moral certitude in our condemnation.
Perhaps, we could learn from the great philosopher Ted Lasso, "Be curious, not judgmental."
I'd like my party to lead in redeeming America to live up to our promise.

Zero people have tried to make Hasan Piker "the spokesman for Democrats." He showed up at one campaign event with one candidate in a primary and sat for some interviews. What's embarrassing is the number of people on here treating him like he's a 2028 contender or DNC Chair.

Framing this as "imagine what that money would do" implies opposition is irrational. But consent isn't a negotiation over price. Some nations on these routes have said no because the risks aren't worth it.
That's a decision, not a miscalculation.

Rough estimate, FNs along a NW BC pipeline route with equity would get about $1/barrel from tolls each day, so $500k/day for northern gateway and now $1m/day for NWCOP. Imagine what $365 million a year would do for the nations along the route.

Polling on whether reconciliation has "gone too far" doesn't tell you anything about policy. It tells you that a sustained political campaign to frame First Nations as a threat has been effective. That's manufactured consent for the status quo.

They would still be profitable so there is no reason for the to move. And governments literally “change the math” all the time

Striking that the Liberals and Conservatives offer the same response to pain at the pump: siphon money out of the public purse instead of Big Oil’s profits.
Oil companies are on track to make tens of billions in windfall profits from Trump’s illegal war in Iran.
It’s their profiteering that’s driving up prices. It’s them who should pay.
It’s time for price caps on gas to stop oil companies from price-gouging Canadians — and a windfall profits tax on war-time oil revenues, so the government can invest that money in the public interest.

@Lanefab Doesn’t even account the larger transportation costs both from individuals and from translink as a whole. More density in Vancouver would have reduced the need for buses and skytrains to further places as many of those people would have lived in Vancouver instead

Add up the forgone taxes from 50 years of exclusionary zoning (that prohibited apartment buildings in most of the city).
My rough figure is about $4b in lost tax revenue following downzoning by TEAM (1.0) - and maintained by successive city govs.
