@RenzTom Where does the income generated by the robots and AI come from?

The Great Reset is happening. How will we pay for those high univeral basic income checks from the federal government? The answer cannot be from income generated by the robots/AI because why would the person that owns the robots/AI and no longer needs people want to fund billions of people? The person that controls the robots and controls the AI controls the world in this scenario and we are supposed to trust that?
Elon Musk@elonmusk

Universal HIGH INCOME via checks issued by the Federal government is the best way to deal with unemployment caused by AI. AI/robotics will produce goods & services far in excess of the increase in the money supply, so there will not be inflation.

@demons_under @TheStithLord @BenjaminDEKR If we do get to a point where you can buy 50 hours for 5 cents, it isn't happening overnight. You need some sort of plan for the decades this miracle transition will take. Like half of Americans have basically no savings, so they aren't making it to rhat future

@Tmp20432 @TheStithLord @BenjaminDEKR Because goods are exponentially cheaper, so dividends from capital is enough to live the life of a millionaire. Imagine owning 50 houses for 5 cents

@demons_under @TheStithLord @BenjaminDEKR The way you're making goods cheap is by replacing humans with robots/AI. Those humans now have a lot less money to buy stuff. I don't see how this wouldn't collapse the economy without UBI.

@TheStithLord @BenjaminDEKR That only happens in demand side deflation. Supply side deflation is perfectly fine. Value of debt increases but you also spend less on goods, so you can dedicate more money to paying off the debt

@VladTheInflator If you automate everyone out of a job, the businesses owned by the wealthy lose a lot of customers since their former customers no longer have money to buy their products. Need some sort of plan to avoid economic collapse

@blackroomsec If AI gives us like 50%+ unemployment, the economy will collapse and stock prices will plummet. It is in the interest of the wealthy to ensure their businesses still have customers so that they can stay wealthy.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. At no time, throughout all of recorded history, has there been any society, government, collective, which paid its citizens to do nothing yet reap some sort of reward for it. And in all cases where wealth was redistributed to such extremes as described here those societies utterly failed. Or, if they survived they became complete totalitarian dictatorships. In every case.

@BenjaminDEKR It sucks to be a doomer. If an AI future is inevitable and you're the richest man in the world, it is better to focus on how to make things go right and share some positive vision of the future that people can realistically work towards, instead of just worrying all the time.

I am genuinely curious what changed so dramatically that Elon went from "inflation and government spending will collapse America" to "government should write endless checks to all Americans and this will create deflation" in, like, 14 months The supposed reason is "AI" but that didn't suddenly emerge in the last year. Yet his views on this have taken a full 180 in that same timeframe. To the point that it sounds like a different person entirely. Still have not seen a coherent explanation.

@thevivafrei The whole argument is that AI and robotics will reduce prices but we can keep incomes the same or increase them (though taxing corporate profits and redistributing to individuals). Honestly I don't think it will work - government and corps will have all the leverage.

I don’t understand this argument. What good does “universal high income” do when all that would happen is massive inflation for the cost of goods? Awesome, now everyone’s a millionaire. And a computer now costs $20,000 because every retailer knows that everyone’s a millionaire.

@ImKingGinger Because you're wrong. Your argument holds true if we just print money and give it to people - incomes go up and prices go up, so no one is better off. If incomes stay the same and prices go down (what ppl like Elon are predicting), then everyone is better off

Shocking-not-surprising statistic here that young women disproportionately believe “things are stacked against me, no matter how hard I try,” and while I know some people will find this deeply ironic (it sort of is) it’s also both understandable and really sad
The New Statesman@NewStatesman

ANGRY YOUNG WOMEN by @emilylawford and @Scarlett__Mag It was a Wednesday night and seven members of the University of Leeds’ feminist society had invited me to join their book swap. I asked how they felt about the young men they knew. “I don’t care for them,” said a girl called Ruby imperiously. “They’re not bad people, but they refuse to call out their friends who make other girls uncomfortable. They’ll laugh at jokes that are sexist, racist, homophobic, they don’t care about political issues… I don’t think they like women a lot.” If a man is attracted to you, she said, he might talk about things like toxic misogyny. If he doesn’t fancy you, he won’t bother. “I feel like a lot of it is quite sexually motivated with men.” I asked if they’d consider dating a man with different political views. They all immediately said no. “I don’t think I’d even be friends with one,” said one girl. “They don’t see you as human.” Only one woman, Evelyn, admitted to having male friends (though she was worried this made her a “pick me”, trying too hard for male attention). Evelyn was concerned about what the men she knew were watching online. “The stuff that’s being said about women is crazy,” she said. “They’re getting all these reels, talking about, like, bad stuff about women. And I get reels of women saying bad stuff about men. I try to think, not all men are like this, but…” On the internet, women and men have never been more alienated from each other. While the toxic, often hard-right politics of the manosphere have been exhaustively documented, the new generation of female influencers are nearly as extreme – just on the other side of the political spectrum. The “femosphere” spans a range of tones: there are misandrist dating coaches who urge women to reject men altogether, and more explicitly progressive content creators who cover global and domestic politics. Exclusive polling by Merlin Strategy for the New Statesman reveals that young women, aged between 18 and 30, are by far the most progressive demographic in the UK. Young women are 26 percentage points less likely to feel positively about capitalism than young men, and much less likely to feel the economy works in their favour. Gen Z women are more likely to support causes such as feminism, environmentalism and anti-racism than young men. They also feel much more negatively towards young men than young men feel about them. I spent the last few months in search of the new left-wing young women. It wasn’t difficult – they were everywhere. But it all felt impossibly bleak. They weren’t excited about their futures. They didn’t like the men they knew, or the idea of those they didn’t. Men were just a threat who had the potential to harm or trap them. This will almost certainly make relationships harder: fewer than half of young women feel men understand them. Young women are much less likely than men to date people who disagree with their politics. People will get lonelier, and angrier. Young women are twice as likely to not want children as young men. And it’s getting worse. Women under 25 are most likely to believe things are “stacked against me, no matter how hard I try”. A significant majority of young women feel isolated from the rest of the country. The two main political parties aren’t reaching out to them specifically. Many women told me they feared a Reform government pressuring them to have babies. Many say they will vote for the Greens in the upcoming local elections, but few seem to believe that will make a difference. They don’t feel represented by mainstream politics, and they don’t think anyone cares. Cover art by Carl Godfrey

I'm not gonna lie, it is frustrating when you ask a patient what's wrong and they just give you a diagnosis. Like "I have a chest infection". OK, you're probably right but I need to know your symptoms to see if I agree with that diagnosis. I can't just take your word for it.
Julia Marie@julia_doubleday

You can’t go in being like “I’m having migraines and I’ve seen that the first line medication intervention for migraines is triptans so I’d like to try that”, many drs won’t LIKE THAT. You have to go “oh nooo my heeeaddd hurtttsss what do i dooo”

@jabberwock951 I had this experience when I told a doctor about my migraine symptoms.. the doctor told me a lot of women come in complaining of "migraines" and turns out they just have regular headaches. Kind of annoying, though I don't really mind explaining my symptoms I guess

Which isn't to say you can't have your own ideas and put them forward. But yes, you can't come in and reel off a diagnosis and treatment plan and expect to avoid starting with basic principles like 'my head hurts'. It's how we tell the migraines from the brain tumours.

@sagephage @thechosenberg Its selfish to impose on her for the next 18</= years she needs to raise kids who are not related to her by blood. A mutal agreement of "no kids" should be honored if that was established. Also, you dont understand what "objective" means. A plea to emotion is not "objective"

@TheLuckyHell @st_louis_stan I'm a guy and can only think of one guy I've known in my entire life who told me he prefers very skinny women, and he was weird. Women trying to be the skinniest is the same as guys competing to have the biggest muscles - it's not as attractive to the opposite sex as you think

this being (generally) the ideal male vs female body nowadays. one is strong and nourished, the other one is frail and borderline starved/under weight. It doesn’t sit right with me
