“Population-based rights” sounds great until it doesn’t. You want reservation by population, but oppose delimitation when it hits you. Convenient. The “South controlled population, North didn’t” narrative? Factually shaky — growth patterns aren’t that simple. Upper castes controlled population, get no reservation, limited political voice, yet carry the tax burden. Muslim population growth gets exaggerated into fear politics, while real data is far more nuanced. Hindus, despite being the majority, see declining proportional share narratives being weaponized. And then comes the contradiction — no religion-based reservation, yet OBC quotas quietly include Muslim groups, even celebrated politically. This isn’t policy. This is selective logic dressed as ideology.

India’s tax burden is largely carried by the “general” middle class. Yet when it comes to subsidies, scholarships, and welfare benefits, distribution often tilts elsewhere. The irony? The very system funded by one section ends up being used to target and vilify them. This isn’t about resentment. It’s about asking a fair question — is the balance between contribution and benefit truly equitable?
