我很好奇什么样的人会在看到官方机构突然改变一个全球知名人物的中文名翻译时，第一反应不是「莫非之前的名字翻译错了」而是「哈哈他们怂了我们赢了真好玩」——退一万步，你有没有看过「鲁道夫 Rudolf」这个词？有没有想过Ru可能从来就不该翻译成卢？ 这算不算一种政治挂帅、意识形态压过专业判断？

Very interesting anecdote just now about a species of academic Chinamaxxing: Prof. Wang Hui of the Tsinghua Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences Tsinghua Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences told me in the green room just now ahead of his talk that they had 190 postdoc applicants to his interdisciplinary program, many with no background in Chinese or connections to China, a great many applying from the U.S. This is up from 130 last year.

我觉得旷视商汤这类帮政府搞AI监控的公司是该被制裁，但同理Palantir Meta之流的也应该被制裁。不过不是通过不让大家发文章学术交流的方式。

Not really sure why PLA related schools are not allowed to submit papers either. Wouldn’t it be informative to see their research? The papers of the other presenters will be online anyway….

CCF(China Computer Federation) advises us not to engage with NeurIPS in any way — including submitting, reviewing, or ACing. They are even considering to remove NeurIPS from the CCF list. I’ll also stop submitting this year — though admittedly I don’t have a paper ready anyway.

看看小红书上的留学生基本盘，这还是自称是“预备政治科学博一”的学生。学政治学却不敢直面和批判中国的政治现实，甚至连批判视角都看不下去，那为什么要学政治学？我确实不懂。难道是为了在顽固腐朽的政治机器上继续助纣为虐？
今天的海外政治学学生的精神面貌已经发生质的变化，很多学校都是如此。留学生们早已不再是怀着批判思维去看待中国，更多的是成长于特权阶层和民族主义时代，用研究对国家体制表达理解与同情，如果找到独特的数据库，偶尔甚至是支持和捍卫。
当然，还是感谢这位同学把一些像“信息控制”这样的概念和理论带进了墙内，即使以一种扭曲的方式。我没看原帖，听说评论区都是附和的，也很正常了。或许这就是今天的互联网基本盘。但无论何时，在时代洪流面前，我都会继续坚定地螳臂挡车。

@mengyer The logic is as Chinese nationalists, we must turn a blind eye on all the ethical issues of sanctioned Chinese companies (employing AI for racial profiling is necessary for China’s development), and at the same time criticize the US’s hypocrisy.

I have served as AC for NeurIPS every year since 2020. Just declined (with messages adapted from @xuanalogue). At least the organizers owe the community an explanation why they are the only major ML venue adopting such a policy.

people are very upset about this and i understand the sentiment, but searching the list for the word "university" shows the actual impact is tiny if it exists at all. there are very few universities there, and rather niche ones (for example, while Imam Hussein University in Tehran is on the list, Sharif University, University of Tehran and Amirkabir University are not)

@yoavgo Sure the US government shouldn’t be the dictator of which institutions are sanctioned. But it’s also quite absurd that people are not discussing whether those institutions should be sanctioned. If you go over the list, none of are innocent.
