@LAnderson_Frank I grew up near the site and went there endlessly to fix my dad’s crumbly volvo. It’s a mile of car showrooms and mid rise housing. If the site was council owned then potentially they all are. Would be v exciting opportunity for densification
@93vintagejones@PaulGoodmanCH Errrrr, how can Labour be the party of Pakistan and Palestine but also have lost its Muslim support? Great take guys.
Maybe the right have been playing sectarian politics, Labour have not.
Leicester East is a terrible warning of British politics dividing on communal lines - with the Conservatives becoming the party of India and Israel, and Labour that of Pakistan and Palestine. No good can come of it.
A pre-polling day message to people who normally vote Conservative:
The Tories absolutely deserve to be punished but if the party is reduced to rubble you are ushering in a period of Labour dominance - of a kind and on a scale we’ve never seen before - and it’ll be the country that’s punished most.
@MiekaSmiles@RishiSunak@Conservatives ….Rishi then turned to the crowd and to eveyone’s surprise, gradually grinned and exclaimed and ‘and it looks BEAUTIFUL!’
@LAnderson_Frank Get a membership. It’ll make you go! Pretty good value and hopefully won’t go up even with the new works coming in. One off visit charge has doubled inexplicably.
Striking how much better a football tournament is when it's held in a proper football country, with historic stadiums and thousands of passionate fans. Oh hi Fifa didn't see you there.
@hackneycouncil Can you keep this man away from the Clissold Pk, Clissold House kids and toddlers section please. He verbally abused children and parents at a birthday party yesterday. Swearing and saying amongst other things that they should all die. Police know about this.
@tomhfh@MattinW00lwich It’s not civil service decline - it’s market ideology that allowed City Hall to be bought by investors and the GLA couldn’t afford the rent. Sensible countries not in the thrall of neo-liberalism wouldn’t have allowed it. Think your camp’s the one at fault mate.
@BandoraLaura@KKIslington Is the argument, although perhaps not of concern to the planning dept, that the mansard is also needed to make the sustainability improvements viable (whether to increase rental value to pay for it or just make it a bigger house worth investing in)?
In a telephone conversation with @metpoliceuk, not-a-journalist ‘Tommy Robinson’ makes it clear that, if his latest “documentary” is not allowed to be aired in Parliament Square, then there will most definitely be chaos on the streets of the Capital.
Get the popcorn ready 🍿
@hitwokefor6@heart_oldham@PaulEmbery@faizashaheen Especially when your meme changes Labour’s name to a right-wing Israeli party and Shaheen’s name is coloured in Palestinian colours. Maybe the meme authors might some day realise there are other issues that matter in British elections than what happens in Gaza
The deselection of @faizashaheen seems particularly inexcusable, not just because of the horrible manner in which it was done, but because she is that rare thing among Labour candidates: a trained economist who has written extensively about the issues of economic and class inequality, has plainly thought deeply about these issues and developed ideas for addressing them. At a time when there is a serious dearth of such people in the party, she will be a loss.
A Labour candidate who opposed Low Traffic Neighbourhoods in Brighton and a Labour candidate who opposed the extension of the Ultra Low Emission Zone to Outer London both blocked from standing. On the same day.
See, it’s not all bad news.
@PollockMarrazzo@IanGraham999@MarinaPurkiss Even if 4 in 10 left private sector (complete nonsense - will never happen - see IFS) that would be an increase of 3% in state sector at time of falling pupils. ‘Swamped’ is very creative English
Nick Ferrari is doing a phone-in with parents who are taking their kids out of private schools because of Labour’s VAT policy…
They sound gutted
One is sending his kids to Spain
Another to Dubai
…all to avoid state schools that 94% of us have little choice but to use.
@EtanSmallman The whole conversation misses the point and goes down a rabbit hole - she shouldn’t be comparing racisms, particularly when her party have been trying to get rid of that crap for years. It was idiotic. Up until then I had rated her as an MP but this was bizarre.
Are we really saying that six million Jews murdered in Europe in living memory could have just masked their ethnicity better? And that homophobia is no biggie because gay people can just get back in the closet?
@AaronBastani@Keir_Starmer And she has a baby too, how could they! She wouldn’t hurt a fly! (ffs)
She could have just not fed in to a vibe the Party have been trying to shake off for 4 years. right before election.
Comments here are kind of proving the leadership’s point. So many ‘Zionist lobby’ trolls
New: Doctor Faiza Shaheen, after winning a democratic selection, has now been blocked by the leadership and @Keir_Starmer from standing as Labour’s candidate in Chingford.
@StuInNorway@ViaTowerBridge@christianwolmar The road had effectively become one tiny one lane tunnel under that bridge and every cyclist around me seemed to understand that this was the only the solution and the driver’s behaviour was heartwarming given the usual van driver-cyclist atmosphere.
