Living in Devon I have some sympathy for the task facing @DartingtonTrust but they are in danger of making a huge mistake. Reversing this decision would show that the Trust still values climate action, innovation and the views of local people theguardian.com/environment/20…

Angers me to write this letter again. Following previous cuts, @CIFFchild managed to plug some gaps with peers, but hole created by #UK & #US #aid #cuts is enormous. Countries need more time to plan aid exit. #Debt #crisis makes this nigh impossible. People suffer greatly.

In 2012, when I was the US ambassador to Russia, Putin shut down USAID inside Russia. Why? Because their work supported free markets, democracy, human rights —ie causes that threatened Putins dictatorship. Shutting down USAID is exactly what autocrats all over the world want.
