@chippychop_ I travel too much as I’m always on tour and I believe if you own a dog you should give it the best life possible and play with it everyday for 15 years.

Before the ~1980s, there was no portable music player. You’d go running, rowing, cycling, whatever, for hours on end, in total silence, no sound other than your own thoughts. How did they do it? We will never know

Those asking for the maths: On a £150k salary in the UK (with a Plan 2 student loan): Income tax: £50,328 National Insurance: £5,011 Student loan: £11,043 (say what you want but an MP has said they use the interest for general government spending) Direct deductions: £66,382 Then add: Council tax: £3,600 Road tax: £500 Stamp duty: £10,000 Fuel duty (~£300/mo fuel): ~£1,600 Estimated VAT: ~£11,000 Total tax: ~£93,000 From £150k earned, roughly £57k actually ends up in your pocket. It then costs me £700/month (£8,400/year) just to travel to work — from post-tax income. After that, I'm left with about £48k of actual usable money. Effective tax rate: ~62% (≈68% including cost just to get to work).

My producer had her phone stolen over the weekend. This kicked off a conversation amongst the whole team, reminiscing when our phones were stolen. Every one of us could relate. Everyone had a story of a time someone effectively swiped £1000 from them. This shouldn't be normal.

A while back, I learned something mindblowing about the geological history of the Mediterranean Sea, and I just can't get it out of my head. Now I'm going to make it *your* problem too. Sorry. Hang onto your hat. This gets wild. 1/

@rorysutherland Rory there is definitely a gap in the market for a hotel letting you check in at noon. Most places seem to be 3pm these days. I just booked an LA hotel which Is 4pm check in! If hotels gave you a cheaper room to be vacated by 9 or 10am, many people would take that option.
