People who stuck around showing Wyndham some love. Some of the first big cheers of the day. “We love you, Wyndham!” “We all make mistakes!” “Hell of a round, man.”

@ImaBigCat @CourtneyRCronin The Bears players go to Soldier Field now maybe 10-11 times per year. They stay in a downtown hotel the night before games. The "commute" for players is largely irrelevant.

Bears organization isn’t going to leave Halas hall up in lake county, Illinois or embrace the long commute to Indiana. They’re continuing their bluff to try and get more from Chicago and Illinois. They could have chosen Indiana and started formal investment a while ago, and they still aren’t.

While I’m being told that the Bears announcement on Hammond is “real”, i.e. not a leverage play, a league source told me that the Bears leaving the state is not a done deal. Per source, Indiana is in the lead right now, but “Illinois can still get back in the race,” granted the state has a lot of ground to make up after not passing legislation that would have insured the Bears property tax certainty.

@AdamSchefter Hammond is so far from the Bears practice facility and what not. Only 30 from Chiraq but such a pain in the ass for Bears players on gameday.

The Bears’ Board of Directors voted Thursday to advance the stadium development in Hammond, Indiana, with the exact to be selected. This is this first time that the Bears’ board has voted on any stadium site. As one source said, “There is more work to do but barring anything very strange, it’s a done deal.”

Buying Arlington Park without doing the due diligence to see if it was politically viable to secure public funds to build there is the reason we are here folks. They might actually be better off selling back the land, writing down the loss and starting from square 1 - if they want to stay in state.
Brenden Moore@brendenmoore13

Breaking: The Illinois House is about to adjourn. They won't vote on the Bears stadium bill just sent over from the Senate. Unless a special session is called this summer, they won't be back until November.

@FrankCalabrese Similar to Indiana deal with a few important differences. Indiana would own the land the Bears pay the state a lease fee and own the stadium. Indiana was also offering 1 billion in subsidies to build the stadium. Bears own the land in AH and there are no state subsidies

The Bears paid $200 million for the land and will pay $2 billion for a stadium that they will not own? They won't get any special events revenue or the ability to sell the stadium. Would they be better off just paying property taxes?
Brenden Moore@brendenmoore13

Since I’ve seen some “why does public ownership make sense?” posts… We still need to see language. But it seems that the stadium would be public in name only. The Bears would likely keep most if not all the revenue. Public ownership allows them to avoid paying property taxes.

NEW: Sen. Bill Cunningham tells reporters that Bears bill language should be filed in the next hour. It’d allow municipalities in Cook County with a population of 70,000+ to create their own stadium authority. Building would be privately financed but publicly owned.
Brenden Moore@brendenmoore13

An update from Rep. Kam Buckner a little while back. He remains optimistic something can happen on the Bears: “This is how this building works, right? Things fit, they start, they go away, they come back… This is the nature of Springfield on May 31.”

@AdamHoge The way this deal makes sense for the Bears is they get all stadium related revenue with a $1 30/40yr buy back option. Similar to Indiana deal. State gets property tax on everything not the stadium plus sales tax from tix, hotels and restaurants

IF this new legislation passes tonight, it would appear to be a good deal for the #Bears. Will it pass? The details in the language will be interesting. Specifically how it impacts taxpayers. The night is still young…

@BrianSchmidt9 @brendenmoore13 Also believe the Indiana deal has a $1 buy out after 30 years? The Bears would be crazy to pay for a stadium the state owns just to avoid property taxes without a structured buyout
