This framing of “tax certainty they need” is a false notion created by the Bears. Repeating it doesn’t make it true. The Bears want tax breaks so they can make more revenue with a new stadium and surrounding development. They also would prefer to pay zero property taxes.

By being “publicly owned” #Bears would get the tax certainty they need to fund the stadium. Since they’re still funding it, they would keep the revenue and likely eventually own it once it’s paid off. That’s the gist of it as I understand it. Hard to imagine lawmakers would be drawing something up Bears wouldn’t want at this point.

Also this is just the stadium. Who owns, pays taxes and gets revenue for hotels and restaurants ?

NEW: Sen. Bill Cunningham tells reporters that Bears bill language should be filed in the next hour. It’d allow municipalities in Cook County with a population of 70,000+ to create their own stadium authority. Building would be privately financed but publicly owned.

Lewis not nearly as much. To say it’s not close shows your lack of knowledge about ball. Stats are driven by scheme.
