One thing that stands out to me in the current AI debate is how similar it feels to past reactions against major infrastructure and energy transitions. Germany spent years moving away from nuclear power and is still dealing with the economic consequences of higher energy costs and reduced stability. Now we’re seeing similar resistance around AI infrastructure and data centers. It’s reasonable to discuss regulation and impact. But blocking infrastructure entirely because of fear or politics usually creates bigger long-term problems.

@TheVirtualTJ @dandakich And that’s part of the broader divide around AI right now. Some people see enormous upside, others see growing risk and overreach. The conversation is clearly far from settled.

Everyone wants AI growth. Very few people want the infrastructure required to support it. The moment a new data center project gets announced, the conversation shifts to: power usage, water concerns, noise, land, community resistance. You cannot demand more digital infrastructure while opposing every physical system behind it. At some point, the industry and the public need a more honest conversation about what AI expansion actually requires.

@Stnd4HumnsFirst I think concerns around how AI develops and where the boundaries should be are legitimate discussions to have. The challenge is figuring out how to encourage innovation while also maintaining appropriate safeguards and accountability.

@TomDakich AI algos that can't replace humans or go rouge have been made and work great with people. Thats the kind of AI we have always known was the limit, and useful! What we have now, 'human replacement AI', all of us high up in tech have always known was OFF LIMITS. Proves bad motives.

@BBessolo I think one thing everyone agrees on is that AI is moving much faster than most public understanding of it. That tends to create a mix of excitement, skepticism, and concern all at once.

Appreciate that, Dan. There’s definitely a lot of emotion around this topic right now. The reality is there are legitimate concerns worth discussing, but also a great deal of misinformation. The conversation is much more productive when it stays grounded in facts rather than extremes.

@BBessolo Understood. It sounds like this issue has become much deeper than just infrastructure policy concerns. Transparency and accountability are important in any large-scale development process, especially when public funding or incentives are involved.

Took the bus to the race. “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” should be billed as the “Greatest Event on the Plant”. Thanks everyone for making the day amazing.

@RaiderOtis65 @dandakich Absolutely true. Public sentiment around AI is much more divided than many people inside the industry probably realize.

@AzizJeebs That’s fair. A lot of this demand is being driven at the enterprise, government, and platform level rather than by individuals directly but it still affects communities locally once infrastructure starts expanding.

@TomDakich I don't recall demanding more digital infrastructure. Only a handful of people are doing that.

@Raiders4L4ME And that’s part of what makes this such an important discussion. There are clearly very different views on where AI and infrastructure development should be heading.

@MainStreetMark_ Fair question. I should probably say there’s significant momentum behind AI growth from both the investment and enterprise side, even if public opinion is still very mixed.

@Ottercreek77 @dandakich I think a lot of people are still trying to figure out where the balance is between innovation, oversight, and how quickly all of this is moving.

@BBessolo There’s clearly a growing debate around how these projects are being incentivized and developed. I think transparency and long-term economic impact are going to become bigger parts of the conversation moving forward.

@STWWBeerCompany I think that’s a very important observation. The industry probably needs to do a much better job explaining both the benefits and the realities of what’s being built instead of assuming the public automatically understands it.

@TomDakich Maybe everyone within the AI bubble wants growth. Many I speak to are afraid of it, dont understand it, or view it as the next get uber wealthy arena for a select few. I think those inside AI greatly need to improve their messaging

@Stnd4HumnsFirst Fair point not everyone does. I probably should have said there’s strong demand for the benefits AI can provide, even if many people still have concerns about the infrastructure and long-term impact behind it.

@TomDakich "Everyone wants AI growth." LOL, who are you talking to? Every ex military, cop, agent, tech person, artist, musician, business owner I know is asking who's bombing the data centers and start building the jails for the the people who promoted and made AI. They want them GONE

@Longin4Reagan @dandakich There’s definitely an economic opportunity tied to this growth, but long-term success probably depends on balancing infrastructure expansion with responsible planning and community alignment.

There’s a tendency to assume that technology is the primary risk factor in data center development, but most of the issues I’ve seen over time have very little to do with the technology itself. They come from decisions site selection, timing, capital structure, and coordination between stakeholders. When those are off, even strong projects run into problems. When they’re right, execution becomes much more manageable. It raises a broader point are we focusing on the right risks, or just the most visible ones?
