Beautiful day to be out knocking doors for @MassieforKY! The energy is palpable. Actual Kentuckians who live in the 4th District aren’t being fooled by the millions of dollars being wasted to distort Massie’s record.

@_AustinHorn @heraldleader There aren't many reporters in politics who fairly portray a variety of viewpoints. I thought you did a solid job objectively analyzing the political landscape in Kentucky. Thank you for your service to promote a healthy exchange of ideas in Kentucky.

Personal News: After 4 years at the @heraldleader, I am leaving. My last day is May 22. Helping people understand Kentucky, and holding its powerful to account, has been a dream job. Thanks to every reader and everyone I met along the way! Hope I did Kentucky proud.

@ChristopherHale It’s not St. Augustine’s order. It was founded 800+ years after St. Augustine’s death. You’re not wrong on the overall message. But you lose credibility overstating your argument.

I was today years old when I learned there is a heresy called “Americanism”. It was declared by Pope Leo XIII (coincidence?) in 1899. It’s characterized by basically putting your own conscience above the Church. From the left it might include support for abortion or same-sex marriage, but it seems like we’re starting to see a manifestation of it from the political right in questioning the Pope’s authority to comment on American involvement in wars or immigration policies. We’re even seeing questions about the legitimacy of this Pope. If your first (or even second) instinct on hearing the Pope calling for peace was to assume it was an attack on Trump, or worse, to attack the Pope, you need to examine your conscience. We are Catholic Americans, not American Catholics. Our first duty is to the Church, not our national government.

@ChristopherHale To be clear, it’s not “Augustine’s religious order.” The order was founded 800+ years after St. Augustine’s death.

NEW: Speaker Mike Johnson told reporters today that Pope Leo XIV doesn't understand “something called the just war doctrine.” Pope Leo is an Augustinian friar who spent twelve years leading Augustine’s religious order. Augustine invented the doctrine. thelettersfromleo.com/p/something-ca…

The statements made by President Trump on Truth Social regarding the Pope were entirely inappropriate and disrespectful. They don’t contribute at all to a constructive conversation. It is the Pope’s prerogative to articulate Catholic doctrine and the principles that govern the moral life. In regard to the concrete application of those principles, people of good will can and do disagree. I would warmly recommend that serious Catholics within the Trump administration–Secretary Rubio, Vice President Vance, Ambassador Brian Burch, and others–might meet with Vatican officials so that a real dialogue can take place. This is far preferable to the statements on social media. I am very grateful for the many ways that the Trump administration has reached out to Catholics and other people of faith. It has been a high honor to serve on the Religious Liberty Commission. No President in my lifetime has shown a greater dedication to defending our first liberty. All that said, I think the President owes the Pope an apology.

What’s the line for you Christians? What’s the final straw? “Epstein is a hoax” wasn’t too far. No new wars to war with Iran wasn’t too far. F bombs on Easter morning wasn’t too far. $5 a gallon gas wasn’t too far. Threatening a “whole civilization” that they would die in a night wasn’t too far. Attacking The Pope wasn’t too far. What about this? Trump posting himself as a Jesus like messiah figure. Complete blasphemy and antichrist vibes.

Trump is killing the conservative movement. The only thing that gives me peace of mind is that “conservative” movement he’s killing isn’t the one people voted for in 2024. There’s still hope to find a new torchbearer.

@JoshuaTCharles Where is a good place for me to start reading what the Church Fathers had to say on this topic? I’ve been reflecting on this idea a lot over recently and, I agree, it’s liberating though I’m admittedly not completely free yet.

The Church Fathers consistently say that all Christians—particularly the rich—owe their abundance to the poor, and if we do not provide it, we are robbing them. That consistent teaching of the Church is challenging for me as well, and I am constantly trying to find ways to live it out more faithfully. Detachment from money is truly one of the greatest sources of genuine liberty this side of heaven.
Joshua Charles🇻🇦@JoshuaTCharles

If Pope Leo XIV is a “Marxist” for his comments on wealth and the care we owe to the poor, then the Church Fathers are hyper-Marxists. Of course, they were not, and much of this is just evidence of how deeply corrupted by mammon our apostate society has become.

@PCKY40031 @ruralj @RepThomasMassie You're not necessarily wrong. Though two points: First, put Massie in that event, and the separation is obvious. Second, have a conversation with Aaron, Adrienne, and Ed, and the differences in personality become quite stark. Only some candidates become more likable over time.

@TomDavisMD @ruralj @RepThomasMassie i don't know. I saw him, Aaron Reed, and Adrian Southworth do one in Shelby County when they were running for the KY Senate. He actually sounded better than Aaron or Adrian relative to style and delivery. Kind of more polished. ???

Regularly, @RepThomasMassie makes himself available for news-media interviews. His challenger, Ed Gallrein, refused to be interviewed by the district’s largest news organization for its major story on their primary race. One wonders why. courier-journal.com/story/News/pol…

@JohnYarmuth It sounds like you haven't read the bill yet or spent any time interviewing private school teachers, administrators, or families. I'd be happy to introduce you to numerous selfless teachers and families who are making enormous sacrifices to support children.

So ridiculous. How many private school openings does he think there are? What small % of the tuition will these credits pay? This is another subsidy to rich Kentuckians whose kids are already in private schools. The people already rejected this idea. Stop this fraud.
TJ Roberts@realTJRoberts

You attended private schools from K-8 and undergraduate. Your veto is a message to middle and low income families that you want them held down and away from your elite circles. I promise Andy, we will override your veto, and parents will have a choice in their kid’s education.

Maybe now that @TinaForKentucky appreciates the potential impact of school choice on ALL children and voted yes on HB1, she'll want to unblock me! Regardless, I'm delighted to see some Democrats have the courage to bring school choice to Kentucky.
